    WTB Aluminum center section

Good to know. I weighed the center section of the unit I am running, 3.91, Sure-Grip, '489' housing and it came in at 73 pounds.

    WTB Aluminum center section

Just curious, how much does one of those aluminum center sections weigh?

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I used aluminum battery cable, I think Moroso made it, in a 74 RoadRunner I used to have. I never had any problems, battery in trunk and all. I was told that copper clad aluminum cable did not carry current as well as straight copper. Because of that I ran both a positive and a negative cable...

    Sneaky modification Wednesday . . .

Two small details on my 65 Belvedere dash. Some of the factory switches were no longer needed and rather than weld up the holes, I used a cut down kitchen drawer handle to make a cover. I also wanted a discrete place to mount switches for stuff like the fuel pump, line lock, cooling fans so...

    65 Plymouth voltage regulator

You cannot use a factory electronic regulator as they are designed for the 'floating field' style alternator (two field plugs). If you do, it will cause a short due to the grounded field on the early alternators. Some of the aftermarket replacement regulators are electronic inside. Just look...

Did you make your own cone washers? If so, how did you 'cone' them?

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I picked up a pair of the aluminum strut rods for my 65 Belvedere. I am still in the process of rebuilding the front suspension so I can't really comment on them much. I can tell you that the stock strut rods weighed 6.4 pounds for the pair (including hardware) and the aluminum strut rods come...

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I like FlowKooler water pumps because they are lighter than OE stuff, mostly due to using an aluminum impeller. I saved just over 11 ounces by switching pumps. Another thing, the fan/pulley hub design makes a small difference as well. The "X" shaped hubs average 2 1/2 ounces lighter than the...

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I have a question for the automatic racers. Do you have an external trans cooler? I have a buddy racing a wild 10 sec Demon (A-Body) and he doesn’t run a cooler at all, just a line connecting the two ports on the transmission. I have an external cooler for my Belvedere, but could shave a pound...

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I just trimmed some of the 'bars' from the fan housing (cage) You can see how much if you compare my fan to DVW's. I can't really say if it improves airflow by not having all the bars in place, but it doesn't seem to hurt it. Cutting the bars off saved a little over 4 ounces. Most of the...

The Elephant In The Room: unloading the load from a B-body.

I have a 16 inch electric fan on my car. It weighed 4.03 pounds out of the box. I trimmed a lot of the plastic from the 'cage' and swapped the heavier 120 watt motor for a lighter 80 watt motor. The fan now comes in at 2.7 pounds.

My stock upper control arms (new OE replacement) come in at 5 pounds each, with ball joint and bushings. Does anyone have weights for the tubular upper control arms? I haven't been able to get anything definitive and I don't want to get a set if they are heavier than stock.

For the Belvedere in 65, Reverse lights were optional. They were vertical lights on each side of the rear license plate. If your car did not have reverse lights, there was basically nothing there except for the license plate.
