My dad was on the B body styling team during 63-64. They made deal with engineering to change the cowl, windshield, and roof. The stipulation? The fenders, hood and doors had to fit the 63 outer cowl shape. This was so the firewall, inner fender, A pillar, B pillar parts could remain.

Once you get used to the feel of rotational torque you can sneak up on it with the impact gun. Tighten a bit, rotate for feel, tighten check and so on. Did many like this in my dealership days. Got to the point where nothing was measured. All by feel.

If only the lock up solonoid was stuck it would only cause the engine to stall at stops. It wouldn't have hurt anything else. I'm assuming this is an A998 trans (basically a lock up 904). This trans is more than strong enough for your combo. What doesn't function now? I can fix it if it's broke...
