I just purchased the 284/484 for the 440 I'm putting together. I'm currently waiting on the cam which was 4 weeks out. They didn't say that on the site when I paid for it. I assume they get them in batches of 10 or so.

I finally got the trans to stop leaking. I replaced the NSS and its all good now. There is a drip or so coming from the band adjuster but I'll deal with that later.

I have to purchase a cam and lifters before I can get any information on piston to valve clearance. Being as though I do not know what the previous cam was I'm thinking about the 484 Purple cam from Mancini So once I purchase that and the lifters I should be able to get some accurate measurements.

You just need to run high zinc oil VR1 Valvoline is a good one but also there is Lucas oils I think they make a hot rod oil. Just need to have the zinc.

You need to run the engine between 2000 and 2500 rpms for 20 minutes. Unless you went roller cam and roller lifters. Then its not that big of a deal.

The pushrods that he apparently installed were more like chevy pushrods and had oiling holes in the ends. They actual measurement was 9.250 Its printed on them

The engine had those gaskets on it when I tore it down. The shim and the .039 I was just curious if the 21 would work in place of the 20 that was on in. I mean the shim. I can find 21 but not 20.

If I remember correctly they were like 9.200 or something like that. He got them from Summit racing. I have them in the shed out of the engine I'll check them tomorrow.

I agree but thought id ask. Anyone used the 484 purple cam? This was a very stout engine before the cam issues. I wish I had the cam still but I let the junk guy take it. 5 of the lobes were completely gone and it mushroomed 5 lifters I had to take out from the inside. Found out a piece of pvc...
