Price of Avocados (Mexico)

My salads taste so incomplete without at least 1/2 sliced avocado. Here in Mexican Walmart the price for a long time now has been the equivalent of $2.72 USD a pound. Ouch. Gasoline rises every month, now the equivalent of about $5.50 gallon (regular).

Avocados in my market SoCal between $1.00 to $1.25 each and they say from Mexico. Gas $4.75/gl

You guys are shopping at the wrong places

I have 200+ avocado trees on my 5 acres. I don't produce commercial, but a local farmer picks and sells them at farmers market. Water cost in these parts (N San Diego county) make it difficult to turn a profit on anything smaller than 100+ acre grove. So I water to sustain them and get reasonable production. Many of the commercial avocado groves have wells.
