Just curious on these older vin plates. The R3 on this seems different not raised like the rest of the vin is this normal. Suppose to be a 65 426 wedge car. The numbers on package tray metal under rear glass matches fendertag and core support as well.

In those years the VIN plates were pre stamped with the year, plant, and sequence number, and the first two characters were stamped later when the type of car was known.
 
Ok I was thinking that's what probably was done.
 
The first two were stamped from the top down, with different stamps, so that is why they look different. The 80 under AB on your tag is 426 wedge.
 
But what about the first two on vin same thing I assume
