T -bone??? I am having a hard time picturing the trajectory of either ship considering where the damage on each one is.

So all that Radar and technology didn't help a damn bit.
I'm saying massive incompetence on both ships, but more so the destroyer.
Captain and Officers need demoted or court-martialed.
How many hundreds if millions does that thing cost?

I don't believe such a massive failure to see that big *** ship really happened. We are NOT getting the whole story here, wait and see. Could the destroyer have been blockading the container ship for some reason? Blind mans bluff gone wrong?

I agree. That destroyer has all the radar it needs to avoid a collision like that, no matter what the conditions. Something stinks or it was massive incompetence !!!

If it's the skippers fault, his career is over!

On a Navy ship the Skipper is in command...even when asleep in his stateroom. He has been/ will be relieved, and any advancement in his career is over. It's sad, but that's how the Navy works.

someones career is over in the Navy .

The bow of the freighter that's underwater must've put a hell of a hole in the destroyer below the waterline.

Same thing happened back in 91 on the way back from the Gulf in the straights of Malaka. The USS Ingersoll's captain went to bed and left night orders that he needed to be woke up if any contact got closer than 10k yards. Well long story short, a Malaysian tanker ripped the starboard side of the ship from forward of the bridge to midship break. It was a junior officer who thought he knew it all, well he didnt. Luckily no one died huge mess tho. The ship I was on was a 100mi ahead of them we launched the helo and in the middle of the night I could see it listing to the side and thought there are going to be dead sailors, thank God no injuries, how, I do not know. The other ships anchor was sticking out of the side. The jr officer from what I was told was discharged and the captain got jammed no further promotions. Pissed me off cause we missed out on a port call in Darwin, we had to escort them to Singapore at a 10kt drift. That part of the world there are so many rumdumb captains of many nations sailing the seas. If it was a moonless night you cant see your hand in front of your face, so even ship crew on night watch who are outside as a last minute defense of the ship cant help out, if the running lights of the transport ship weren't on or burnt out. That part of the world ship traffic can be the equivalent to rush hour traffic in Chicago. Sounds like the US ship is going to have a lot of explaining to do.

you mean with watch men on both of these ships , no one said hey look at the ship . its going to hit us . and turned away from the collision . what did the radar get f...'d up .

Wouldnt be the first time the outside watch fell asleep. My guess is when the US ship was making corrective steering, the supply ship was making counter movements that actually decreased reaction time of both captains. Not making excuses for US Captain but stranger things have happened. Depending on other ships movements in the area, the US ship couldve put that thing in overdrive and sped away, due to its size and speed advantage over the larger ship. Also it could be the time of year that you see small boats fishing at night for squid etc. They'd have bright lights hanging off their stern. Its a whole different world there folks.

you do have marines over there helping "what's his face" combat mussies ,wonder if this is a protest action
Them muzzies better hope that we interfere with all our pc b.s..
Those Phillipino dudes don't play by pussy *** kumbaya American libtard rules.

Maybe the US ship's commander was one of obanana's incompetent and unqualified appointments?
