73 RR heater hose routing to water pump housing

Does it matter which size hose mates up to the water pump housing. I have a 73 RR with a mopar hi po pump and it has two opening for the fitting at different locations - see photo. Does the 5/8" hose go inboard of the pump or does the 1/2" hose.
I have heard that if its not correct you will have no heat in the winter.
Just trying to get it right.

Heater Hoses

Your 5/8 hose should go to the front, or closer to the radiator. thats the way it is on my 74 RR/GTX with 440
