You could upgrade to a solid state regulator & go up another
15-25 amps in an alternator, with no real issues...
M&H,
http://www.wiringharness.com/
They're sold thru Year One, sells the engine harness with CEI &
later version digital or solid state regulator
{or dual field alt & 73 & later 4 pin ballast & regulator} upgrades already done for you...
I also add a #8 ga. wire from the back of the alt. main 12 volt output 1/4-20 stud
on my 75 amp Powermaster Alt., upto the starter relay 1/4-20 stud on the firewall,
it shortens the path of the system, less load/resistance & less stress on the amp ga. too
Also check out
http://www.madelectrical.com/,
look in the tech section for problem areas, call the guy even,
he loves to talk & help his customers, great guy...
Make sure you have good engine to body grounds,
{I ground it to the bolt that hold the reg. on the firewall}
Make sure your battery has a good bat. to body ground...
Make sure to have a clean surface under all grounds &
electronics/electrical connections, also clean all the connection on/in
both sides of the 3 main bulkhead connectors on the firewall too,
also add a dab of dielectric grease to every connection & the grounds too...
There's other options too, this is just an easy one,
improves effectiveness/efficiency of the charging system,
without any wild changes/alterations, still all Chrysler/Mopar basically...
good luck I hope this helps, I do this on all my ol' Mopars
I'll post a couple of diagrams too..
