Hi All,

I am replacing the grommet on my fuel tank (66 Coronet) which is at the point where the inner-filler tube and tank meet.

Can you look at the pictures below and let me know which way the grommet is installed:

Picture 1 or Picture 2?

Thanks,

pic 1 is correct. a little dish soap will help get the tube in

I also used a radiator hose 90* cut to fit for the piece between the neck and tube

Thanks for the reply.

I was planning on using some non-hardening gasoline-resistant sealant around the tube and gasket for extra measure.

Did you use any sealant or did you just shove the tube into the grommet?

Thanks again,

watermelon

I just replaced my tank, sending unit, straps, etc., including a new filler grommet.
Gave it a little axle grease and cleaned up the old filler neck; it slid right in no problem.

There's no need for sealant and if you ever have to take it back apart again in the future....well, you won't be happy if you used sealant.

Don't put sealant on it. If it gets loose, it will end up in your fuel lines and filter. Wanna guess how I know this?
