This shops take on the flat tappet cam issues. seems they just got fed up dealing with it.

Here is a worse case deal. New can lifters. broke it in everything was fine until it wern't.... Started Popping back thro the carb like a clock ticking....
Shut it down instantly. Ran the valves..... Adjusted the exhaust . Rolled it over to do the intake and I could watch the valve close all by its self on top the lobe... No cam damage thank god put a set of solid lifters in it. A hydro cam btw. (done it many times)
Flogged her good on the weekends last summer. All is well this year... So far.
Hope ya can see. Yes that is a drop of oil from inside the lifter.
