For those of you who have a Poly 318 in your B Body, can you tell me if your Engine Mount Bracket mounts in front of the Engine Tabs or behind it?

Last time my car was at a shop, they said the Mounts didn't line up so they had to redrill the Bracket, but if I recall correctly, I think they put the mounts on the wrong side of the Tabs and that's why it didn't line up, otherwise the trans mount wouldn't have lined up either.

It's a long story... I can't remember where they were when I removed them, and since I bought new mounts I want to make sure I put them in the right place.

Hmmm... one in front and one behind. Maybe they put both behind and it didn't work and that's why they elongated the hole. I'll have to check...

thanks!

Poly Engine Mounts

I just went through that excercise last week. The double tab side goes on the outside of the block on both sides. The steel part of the mount that bolts to the block has index holes that you line up the tab on the rubber part of the mount, the angled part of the rubber pieces faces to the rear. I had trouble with my mount because I used Schumacher poly replacement mounts and the stud on the fuel pump side of the engine was made too long to clear the bolt holding the steel bracket to the block. After looking at my original stock mount which used a much shorter shorter, a simple cut of 3/8 off the stud and it works fine.

Contact me if I can help you.

Rick

I have the Schumacher mounts also, and the instructions show that the brackets go behind the ears on the engine for both sides. But it doesn't seem correct on the right (passenger) side because the mount has an uneven surface on the back side of the front ear.

Here are some pics, and this is opposite of how Paul has his mounts. Maybe I need to contact Schumacher and ask them about their installation instructions.

**I just spoke to someone at Schumacher and he told me that on the trucks the mounts are one in front and one behind, but on all passenger cars the mounts should be behind the ears on the engine (like the second picture). Hmmm...

On my 440 install (original 383 K-frame and brackets) the brackets are behind the ears on both sides.

The reason ,i have them the way i do ,is because if i install them behind the tabs there seems to be a space between the tab and the mount bracket,if i put them on the outside it seems to be a perfect fit.I could be wrong ,i should have taken a pic before i removed them. My bad.Remember ,if you look at the elephant ears on the frame were the mounts sit ,they are offset,it looks that way to me anyways,if im wrong please let me know.

I think when I put my eng/trans in, I'll make sure the trans is mounted and then see where the rest sits and report from there. Hopefully that will happen in the next two weeks!

Thanks for the input!

It was late last night and I was looking at everything backwards. I meant to say Idler Arm (right side), not the Steering Arm (left side).

Here are 3 photos showing the Brackets mounted to the back side of the Ears, the TTI headers installed, and TTI's Bracket modification.

The engine mount brackets bolted to the back side of the ears. The brackets were both slotted 1/2" allowing the engine to moved back which gave clearance between the header and the idler arm. The transmission mount was slotted from the factory allowing the move.

The motor mount insulators were OEM, the transmission mount was Schumacher. The left front motor mount also allows for installation of the Schumacher Adjustable Torque Strap.

The engine mounts are mounted behind the bracket casting on the engine.
I have a picture of my Satellite here for reference.

Poly318 I have 2 original Poly 318 64 plymouths and both cars have the
mount brackets behind the block casting ears on both cars.Engines never
removed. The 63 thru 65 parts book lists the steel mount to the block as
the same on both sides part no.2402185.

Hope this helps you!
