It's just a matter of standardization. When a group of countries is together, you'll see similar designs so that they can interchange across borders. Those push pads that you see on British Commonwealth trains are buffers, usually with steel springs and hydraulic dampening to prevent jarring...
I have no problem with the column shift, my road runner came that way and it didn't slow me down. And the lack of tachometer would be more important with a manually shifted car. I really like the colour combo.

Exhaust under the transmission won't be unfamiliar to anyone with an H pipe that goes under the transmission. I changed an O2 sensor once, it wasn't hard.
But I've never bought a brand new vehicle yet, and likely won't in future.
I guess if you buy a new truck in the future, that will be what the underpinnings look like, whether it's ICE or electric.
