Lets talk about oil pump relief valve springs

This is on my 451. Motor was put together years ago and had a Melling M-63HP pump on it. I never wrote down the actual oil pressure #'s, but know it wasn't out of the ordinary. I run Valvoline VR1 10w-30. Fast forward to 2 years ago. I had the motor freshened up by a different shop. They reused...

Check the balance of your flywheels

Pulled the 400 based stroker engine in my 69 Bee last fall to have it gone through as well as a cam swap. The car had a vibration since I restored it several years ago. For the heck of it, I put the flywheel on my tire balancer after pulling the motor and was quite surprised to see that it...

    470" Source Stroker Kit Opinions

Any of you guys running their 400.470.5076 kit and have an opinion to share? 4.375" bore (.035" over), -27 dish pistons .002 below deck, 9.4:1 compression with 78cc heads and .039 head gasket. Other parts I have in a motor now that am thinking of reusing: Racer Brown SSH-44 HFT 242/242...

Trick Flow 240 vs Stealth heads

Say a guy has a 451 that dyno's 530 hp and 535 ft.lbs. with ootb 440 Source Stealth heads that are advertised as flowing 260 cfm. If the only change is installing a set of ootb Trick Flow 240's and longer pushrods, what can be expected for a performance gain since the TF's are advertised as...

Need help identifying this shifter and stick

These were being used on a 1968 18 spline trans in a 1967 Belvedere. I personally have never seen a shifter with a straight reverse arm, and can see no number on it. The rods and levers are oem style, not what comes in the comp plus kit. Also the stick. No number on it that I can find either...

    Pressure plate id?

Anybody recognize this pressure plate and clutch disc? The only markings are shown in the pics. Was in front of a 18 spline trans.

Engine - Compression - Timing Comparison

I have a question for you engine guys. I am redoing my 69 Road Runner. Had a 451 put together 7 or 8 years ago using Source's kit with 4.380" -4 flat top pistons (measured compression 10.3:1). I had always struggled with a slight bit of detonation, but had it pretty much under control by...

    Rocker shaft orientation

I know the oil holes have to point down, but they are not down the centerline of the shaft. By flipping it around, I can bias the holes to point to the intake or the headers. Would either way be better?

    Trick Flow 240's and rockers

Recently had some issues with the valvetrain on my 400/500 stroker and am replacing the PRW P rocker assembly. Looking for advice on the best, easiest swap from you guys that do this everyday. This is the cam and the rockers are 1.6 ratio. I am down to 3 choices. From what I have been...

    Need some engine advice

Messing around with the 400-493 stroker in my Super Bee. For those that remember, this is the second go around with this engine for me. Built by a prominent shop in CA. The first one had a detonation issue. Pulled the motor and sent it back to get a milder cam, and dish pistons with a...

    Need some engine advice....

Since I am not very well versed in how everything works in conjunction to get a good running engine, I am hoping some of you more knowledgeable in that department can help me out. So I had a 400 based stroker built, dyno'd, and tuned by a very respected builder. He put together a motor...

Trick Flow 240's and Spark Plugs

What heat range plugs are you guys using on your TF's? Reason I ask is I am getting some detonation on a newly rebuilt 499 stroker. It came back to me with base timing at 17 and total at 35. MSD ready to run distributor with 2 blue medium springs bringing total timing in at 2350 rpm. I put...

Anybody else have steering link hitting oil pan?

I got talked into using this Milodon 31580 Road/Race 7 quart pan on my 499 build. Full turn to the right bumps the corner of the pan. Don't think I want to dent in the pan because I don't know where the baffling is. Should a guy worry about it?

    Bellhousing alignment ?'s

I have never played around with bellhousing alignment, but am trying to learn. So am I thinking correctly that in a perfect world I would need a pair of .009 offsets? Seeing as though they are only sold as 7, 14, or 21's. I should buy a pair of .007's?

    Strange S60

Any of you guys purchased a complete Strange S60 from Dr. Diff or directly from Strange for your B-body? Thinking about getting one for my Bee project that will have 550-600 hp. Did you go with the standard Trac-lock or upgrade to Truetrac or Detroit locker? Were the gears set up nice with no...

Hyraulic vs. hyd. roller cam in a street car?

I am going to have a 400 motor stroked to a 470 and am starting to go through the parts list with the builder. Debating between standard hydraulic or hydraulic roller valve train. Do you guys who mess around a lot with motors think it is a wise $300 - $400 upgrade? The guy doing the build...

Could a 69 Bee be ordered with an open rear?

Curious if a 69 super bee could have been bought with an open rear end? Just disassembled mine and that is what I found. Ring gear is a 3.23 with a date of 11-11-68. The cars build date on the fender tag is January so that adds up. I thought all Road Runners and Super Bees would have come...

Help with a "B" stroker build

Starting to think about a motor for my current 1969 Super Bee project and would love some input from you engine guys. I have a 400 standard bore block so will go with either a 451 or 470 kit from 440 Source. Will be a 4-speed, 3.55 gears, and 27-28 inch rear tires. I would love to use an...

    66-67 4-speed pedal assemblies vs 68-69

I have a 69 Super Bee automatic that I am converting to a 4-speed. A buddy has a set of pedals that came out of a 66 or 67 car. Brewers lists them as a different part # than the 68-69's. Anybody know if the difference between the 2 is just cosmetic, or will they work in my car?
