I’m new to mopar big blocks. Back in the day I built quite a few SBC 400s. Typical 30 over flat tops, 64cc iron world products heads. With my home port jobs they would hit from 280 to 300 depending on how extensive the customer wanted to pay for. After trying a lot of cams over the years I...
Just got my 63 440/TQ Polara back after switching pumpkins. I thought I was close to making some passes but nope. First rolling hit and the tires lit up,the limiter hit6k, and the axle started bouncing. All faster than I could shift. I could feel the Caltracs loading and unloading. I’m thinking...
Well it showed up on the day they promised and right on budget. Other than some good cleaning it appears to be all new. 1400 to my door. Now to have it installed.
Well I just pulled the trigger on a diff for my 63 dodge. I have a non taper 8 3/4 housing. I ordered a new 489 case with 3.73 gears and a Detroit locker. Includes the good gasket and 1350 pinion drive. 3 week delivery. Slowly but surely it’s making progress.
The PO didn’t remember what bolts his builder used. All I have is this one picture when my guy checked some bearings and confirmed it was balanced. This is an older build. Maybe 8 to 10 years ago. It spins 5500 easily and is smooth as glass.
Thanks guys.
Bob.
So I just got my tach working. 80mph at 3000rpm with 28 tall tires. Converter flashes to 2800 in 3rd. Figure a 6% slip. Figures closest to a 2.93. It was a factory 318 auto. No wonder it’s a freeway flyer. Since I have a small pinion carrier I will upgrade to a large pinion with a posi or...
So my 63 has a push button trans. Yet it also has a normal front u joint. Not the special one a 63 uses. I asked my trans builder what it would take to change from a RMVB push button to a normal floor shift. He said it can’t. Something about the case is different. The builder is Art Carr so I’m...
My car is a 63 polara with a 440. CNC Stealth heads, Isky 292 mega cam, Speed Pro 2355 flat tops, Doug’s D452 headers, MSD 6al and billet dist, Ed RPM intake with a 750 Double pumper. A Built 727 with Manual Valve body and a 3k converter. Just some 275/60/15 street tires. Mostly street but a few...
I got the old cam out of the 440. The new Isky 292 runs great. Fixed my problems. I'm trying to figure out what the cam that came out of it is. Just want to see if it's something somebody on the forum might use. Thanks Bob
It's in the shop and they pulled the pan to check the bearings. it was low on oil but I checked it when I bought it. I only have about 500 miles on it. Oil pressure was always about 80 above 1500 rpm and never less than 40 at a guess 750 hot idle. Piston tops look clean. This was a motorhome...
Hi guys. I’m disabled and 75 so I can’t do this myself. I need a shop or individual who could install a 292 Isky Mega cam for me. I’ve got no place to work on cars anymore. I’ve bought the parts. Any ideas. I found one shop. He wanted 3k for a cam swap. Seems high. I’m in Seal Beach. Thanks. Bob.
I had a shop who said they would install my cam in my 63 440 powered Dodge. But he wants 3000 and then another 1000 to do my MSD dist and 6al box. I may have been retired for 15 years now but that just seems way higher than I would have charged in my shop. I have the new cam, lifters and timing...
Just wondering if any of you porting guys have done a flow balance job on one of these. I did Chevy and ford ones a long time ago. I'm thinking that a ported one would work well on a set of TF 240's, 292 mega cam and 446 cu in. I'm thinking I would send mine out when the time for the cam change...
So i bought my 63 Polara and am fixing things up. It was pretty rough. The previous owner said that he had the 76 440 rebuilt with new pistons, but he did'nt remember any cam or piston specs. It's in the shop right now getting a bunch of safety and reliability work done. The shop called me with...
