Dave's 69 Coronet Deluxe

69 Dodge Coronet (back from the dead), 31 Ford Pickup Rat Rod, 66 Check C10, 66 Ford Mustang

About this Mopar:

Dad bought this new in 1969 - he had a one year old and no money for more hot rods!! I got it from Dad in 1984 and drove it until 1986, then left for college. It went into Grandma's garage until Oct 2020. Now she resides in Colorado and is slowly being brought back to life. Car was hit in left rear by a duffushead in roughly 1985. Fixed by mid 80's standards at roughly the same time. We ran water in the radiators in southern California back then so if I can figure out how to upload the pics, I'll include a beautiful pic of what remains of the thermastat. Its a pretty clean car but need floorboards. Its got stuff rear springs now and 1.03 torsion bars on order. Front end rebuild comes next then I'll return to the motor. The 318 currently runs but needs help. Fun car. Lots of memories. One family since new. The pull from California was my first real car pull, and we had a standard poodle pup in the back seat with a broken foot that occurred just before we pulled out. 23 straight hours on the road. Dang near too much for me. Sure am enjoying this site. Zoom in on the gas cap to see the carcasses of time. The motor didn't look too bad after sitting for so long - on the outside anyway. The little 2 barrel is about as simple as they come. Tossed in a picture of the rat rod cause she's hand built but the focus now is coronet.

So nice to have a one family car. She look's pretty good. Yes water is not good unless you use distilled water. The motor may need to be refreshed knowing it was not run hard in it's life. So thanks for the pic's enjoyed the story.

Awesome Coronet. Awesome that's it's been in the family since new. I wish my dad wasn't swapping cars every couple years. Would have loved to still have the GTX he had.

See you know your things.

Good looking car!!

I just tore down a 383 that looked like your pic of the thermostat housing. The backside of your freeze plugs and water pump probably look the same. I got a pile of rust out of my block with a pressure washer. It really needed to be hot tanked.

Good luck with it!

I could use one as a daily.
Missed an oppertunity to buy a running 318 69 coronet for $1500 last year :BangHead:

Great story, great car love cars with an attachment to the family......I still have my High School car.

Beautiful car, Dave! I love the lines on the '68s and '69s. And the rims really make the car POP!

Beautiful car, hope you keep the 318. I love the originality of that engine bay. What wheels are those? Can't quite read the center cap.

Wheels are Enkei brand, circa 1985, 15x8. I forgot the backward thread on the left side - opps. Buried with Alzheimer's take care of my dad duties so off just reading posts via email for a while. Car now has hemi springs, all new fluids, 1.03 torsion bars, new wheel cylinders, brake cylinder, water/fuel pump, trunk floor pan, etc etc. I won't be able to stand the 318 much longer at this 7000' altitude. Am thinking strongly of staying small block though and inserting a 408. Maybe a 440 but I've never seen another small block coronet so likely stay small block.

How could I forget - all new front end - not a trivial little rebuild but youtube and homemade presses did the job. Very cool. Drum brakes don't work very well - and heat up very quickly. Radiator started marking its spot with tranny fluid so an external does that job while I be indecisive on the motor/tranny combo

And now she's getting the kinks ironed out of a Blueprint 408 small block, 904 upgraded tranny with COPE internals. Soon she'll get a 8 3/4 rear end with 3.23 posi. At that point stage 1 will be complete. I've had her out a few times. Runs pretty good but has stalled on me 2x without warning. not sure why but will continue to look at it. not sure I like he electric choke as I'm used to manual choke fine tuning. Oh yeah, also put in floor boards, frame stiffeners and front and rear torque boxes. She's a stiffy now. While welding upside down slag dropped down, through a thin spot on my glove and superheated my wedding ring. I cut it off 4-5 days later after I finally revealed the "accident" to my wife. Finger got a lot ugly for a month or more but it didn't fall off. Do appreciate this site a ton as i often research stuff on it - lots of smart people on here. Merry Christmas Everyone. I'm tracking this as 68-69 Coronet #7 in Colorado Springs!!!
