Bought a cheapo input shaft seal on ebay. Brain fart one. So I call my NAPA store and tell them what I need 18 spline input shaft seal and than it should be for hemi engine. Told him 66 Plymouth so it would show other engines. Wrong seal. When I showed up to pick it up I could tell it was wrong. Ok have look at 383 equipped 4 speed same seal. He looked in an older book and came up with another part number. It's smalle than the ebay seal, which I decided not to use. Don't want to use a seal of questionable mfg, don't what to do it twice.
So question what is the O.D. of the 18 spline seal? I.D. if you know.

I take it the trans is not apart yet. The EASIEST thing to do is take it apart, pull the seal and buy your new one at a local bearing supply house. I GUARANTY it will be an off-the-shelf item. These seals were nothing "special", just a standard seal the size Chrysler required. In fact, Chrysler likely made the shaft and retainer to fit the seal! If you pull it, look carefully, there will be a part number on it - that part number is a manufacturer part number (not Chrysler) and it can be cross referenced by any bearing supply shop (probably even on Google). It will likely cost you half as much as Napa or Mopar !!

Decided to just order one from Brewer's. Trans is at the point drop the cross member and unbolt the trans. Looked in Rock Auto they list a National seal 9487 for 18 spline trans and the dimensions match the ebay seal. The rub typed in for a 383 manual trans came up with the same seal no option for a 23 spline. Was hoping to just drop trans and put back in same day. After dropping h-pipe, shifter and the drive shaft got cold feet on no-name ebay seal. The NAPA seal is a tenth smaller in dia. than the ebay seal. To old to do this again.
