I will be going threw a 727 cable shift transmission. I am going to put a 24 spline input shaft in it, with a newer reaction shaft. That way I will have a greater selection of torque converters. I will also be going to a 5 disk front clutch pack. I was wondering if I could go to a 71 front clutch retainer so I would get the wider bushing clutch retainer?
I was wondering if there are any other upgrades that I might consider? I Already have have converted the valve body to a part throttle kick down unit. Thanks for any help you might have.

If at all possible upgrade the sprags to the best you can get. Kits are available from TCI and others and this is one of the most overlooked components necessary for higher horsepower cars. Use the thicker servo pistons (also available as kits) to prevent knocking the lock rings off their seats (grooves) as they will not tilt in their bores under quick shifts if the pistons are thicker. Trash the accumulator spring for a solid rod (also available as a kit or make your own) especially if your looking for quicker shifts and install a poly transmission mount which is far superior to any rubber type. A deeper pan will give you more fluid which equates to lower fluid temperatures. Oh hell just read this and decide for yourself:

Thanks, I forgot to mention I planed on a bolt in sprag & some of the other mods you brought up. I have done a few 727 lever shift rebuilds. I just can't seem to find anywhere if I can put the wider bushing 71 & later drum in the cable shift transmission.

What did you do to set up your tranny for part throttle downshifts? I have a 65 C body I wanted to do this to.

I bought a kit that Torque Flite Patty sells on ebay.

i used to take those off warranty transmissions when i worked at Dodge in the early 90s

The bolt in sprages are useless. The A&A version is an upgrade, but is $200. 71 and up reaction shaft support, drum, and input shaft. Modify the reaction shaft to drum oil feed hole per CRT website. 4 clutch drum will live easily at 700hp/3400lbs. 3.8, 4.2 lever, .015" clearance per friction. Good valve body. I've run the stock input, output, 3 pin planets, and servos in my 9.0 car 450 passes. The only "maintenance" part is the front planet carrier itself. Tends to twist the splines, but has never failed completely. Previous build in my 10.20 car went 700 passes and still looked like new inside. Both had Turbo Action manual valve bodys. Current build does run 5 frictions and a aluminum drum.
