Well looks like my dad was right.. blown head gasket.. so its apart.

I am not really doing anything performance wise "Currently" to my belvedere, but since the intake manifold weights a bunch.. looks nasty in the water area and pretty much everywhere else not to mention it is obviously not the stock one (Its a 4bbl) I am wanting to upgrade the intake manifold now since I have a couple hundred I could spend on it... That way this summer when I do a complete rebuild that is one less think I have to purchase.

My dad is not much help in the area of Mopar performance.. he is our adopted stepchild.. he has 2 AMC's at different stages of restoration..

Current info.. its an older rebuild and has a RV cam in it, and currently running a 600cfm carb.

Thanks, JAKE

LA or Poly? What year and where are you planning on going with it?

sorry bout that..

1966 Belvedere LA318.. From everything I have been able to look up on the car.. it was orig a LA318... it also appears to be the original engine.. again as far as I can tell from researching it. But at some point some one put a 4bbl cast iron intake manifold on it, so since I have a new carburetor, I might as well stay 4bbl..

Also, besides the blown head gasket.. nearly all the coolant ports were plugged/blocked... no wonder my radiator was boiling over :/

I put an Edelbrock Performer on my 318 along with 600 cfm (1406) and a mild cam. If you look around you should be able to find a used intake. Save your dollars for a good gear ratio in the rear end. No need throwing any more $$$ than you have to at that LA!

As for new stuff i would rec these two- Eddy performer or Weiand action plus, both dual plane.

If you can find an old eddy LD4B, that would be a great intake as well.

I am doing some preliminary shopping for a 4bbl intake for my 1972 318 LA. Notice the MOPAR Performance part says the ports are for a 340 and won't line up with 318 heads right. Do the Edelbrocks fit any better?

There is an Edelbrock LD4B on eBay right now for $199+ship in case anybody is in the market right now. I am not associated with that sale at all.

Looks like searching for Direct Connection part 2836139 reveals some good results. Hopefully one of those lines up with a 318 better than the newer ones.

I'd go with an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and a 650 cfm Holley carb double pumper mechanical secondaries.

not sure how the new ones perform but...I had an LD340 & holly 600 with fresh heads crane fireball cam (80s) in a 71 Cuda. the car ran good for a 318. Just dont call it a "built" 318...it didnt take long to figure that out for me...LOL

I am still a fan of vacuum, so will try that with an electric choke. You can get them that way, can't you?

1966 Belvedere that's original motor? LA's did not come in 66 Belvederes but the A318 did which is a poly head engine. Anyways, almost all intakes that are not listed to fit the teen will have larger ports than the ports in the heads. If that is the case, you will need to port match the heads to fit the intake or you will a step up for the air/fuel to climb over which isn't good for performance. The LD340 is still a very good intake today for small blocks but it too will have the larger runners than the teen will have.
