What is the largest tire width I can get on my 67 Belvedere with the stock suspension.... and what would the rim backspacing need to be.....Thanks

They say you can go 255/60/15 with a 8" rim and 4.5" back spacing or a 275/60/15 with 5" 0r 5.5" back spacing someone will chime In that has done it so you'll know for sure.

You can run the 255/60x15 on an 8" rim, but will need to run more like 5" or 5.5" backspacing. A 7" rim with 4"-4.5" backspacing is easier to find and will yield better results at stock ride height...shouldn't rub when cornering (induced body roll). The outer wheel house steps inward a couple inches up. Feel up in there and you will see what I mean.

You can have wheels custom made to get the wider tire in there, but then the 'mushroom grows'. As it is you have to jack the car by the frame so the suspension will droop to get a real wheel on and off. Somebody on here mentioned going one step further and needing to put a bottle jack on the axle to to push it further from the body to get a wheel on and off.

As for the 275/60 tire, believe it or not you 'may' have rubbing issues at the 'front' of the wheel house due to the diameter of the tire. The 255/60 is a 27" diameter, while the 275/60 is over 28" in diameter. That inch + makes a difference on the outside, inside and 'frontside', on the `66s and `67s. Not saying you can't, just be aware of the potential rub points.

I had Cooper 255/60/15 on an 8" rim with a 4.375" BS and they worked but would rub just a bit on the corners. I also had to make extra room on the outer wheel lip. I tried a set of 275/60/15's on some 8" road wheels with the 4.75" BS and those fit well. My 9x28 slicks fit on an 8" rim and I think those are 4.75" BS.
