What's it Worth 69 Roadrunner - project car

Trying to decide if I should sell it or keep it. Looking for a ballpark on what it would be worth as is. Thank you in advance!

69 Roadrunner RM23 Hardtop - F3 frost metallic green. 383/727 auto. 8 3/4" 3.23. I have the fender tag (somewhere), no build sheet. Clean title.
It is a low option car. It has the air grabber package and thats pretty much it. Black interior, AM radio.
Body (core support and trunk) numbers match VIN. Engine is a '65 date coded 383. Didn't check the trans.
Rear has a power lock instead of a sur-grip. Currently is about half way apart. Interior is out, doors off, fenders off, hood off. Still rolls and has brakes/steering. As it sits in the first picture.

To be done right, it will need completely gone through. I have 98% of the car. I don't have the correct front seats, the ones i have are out of a 67 fury and are pretty rough. I don't have the carb. The radiator is a re-core, and I don't have the correct radiator fan. Bumpers, trim etc all driver quality. Car had previous body work. Quarters were done. They look pretty good, but they were tacked on and blended in. Can see it from inside the car. Pass side quarter has a good size dent that could be pulled. I'd say its a 50/50 split on re doing the quarters. Doors look decent. Front fenders are full of bondo. Rocker panels will need done. They put a lot of bondo down there. drivers side and pass side floor have holes. Trunk and extensions will need done. Drivers side frame rail has a hole in it. Non load bearing side, should be able to be patched in. I'm sure there are some other areas on the body that will need metal work, there is some bubbling going on in a few spots. Engine hasn't run in years. But was a recent rebuild last time the car ran. It has 400 heads that were lightly gone through. Little hotter cam in it. Engine should be good. Trans is bad. If I remember right it just stopped going into gear. Will need rebuilt. Rear I think was fine. I have a spare from a new yorker that would go with it.
Interior was in ok shape. will need new carpet and a headliner, those are gone. Rear seats could potentially be re-used. Would need re-covered to be nice. Door cards I think were a little rough. Arm rests aren't good.
Air grabber parts are there. The underhood gasket seal is bad. But all the important stuff is there. Horn is there.

Have no idea but to me, it would be worth more to me if it were a coupe and a 4 speed!!

Appreciate it. I mean yeah, of course it would be worth more if it were a 4 speed.
I thought people preferred the hardtops over the post cars, though.
 
IMO it would depend on you resources and metal skills along with time, Holes in the frame mean that this thing may look like cheese after stripped.

That looks like a lot of work....unless you plan on getting physical yourself....it's gonna cost a ton of money.
 
I’ll stick my neck out and say it would move at $12-15K with a clean title. Rust repair and unknown’s are the negatives. The car does have things going for it.

I had an offer about 10 years ago for 10k. At that point I wasn't interested in selling it. I've started shopping it around locally and thought 10 might be a good jumping off point. I've got a friend with some connections and was getting told that 10 was too high. Its a low value car and that I'd end up sitting on it for a while. So I just needed a sanity check. I'm not delusional about the car. I know its not exactly rare... But its also not something you run across every day. The air grabber parts alone are at least worth something.

lol, there are days I want to burn it!

I was prepared to restore the car and do most of the work. I've got friends I can pull in on some of the tougher body work.
Reason I'm starting to kick around selling it is because I've sat down and done the math on what it would take to get it where I want it. Getting the car itself back to good form I'm ok with. But I'd be looking at doing a full suspension conversion, SRT engine, etc to make it fun (for me). My taste has changed, and by the time I get through all that I think I'm better off moving to a C2 vette.

You have to really like a car to justify spending lots of money on it. Otherwise, it's a nagging pain in your brain and wallet.

I think most people do prefer the hardtop but I've always liked the 2 door sedans and coupes. Been that way since the 60's. Also have always liked the 'sleeper' look. Even built a decent running 383 powered 4 door that would stay with the 440 RT's etc. but didn't do that because I wanted to. It was my first car that was sort of a hand me down (got it for graduation but had to pay for 1/2 the value of it which was pretty cheap). Had a few pretty good running pickups too. Only had 1 road runner, a 68 coupe and it was a dedicated race car. Funny thing was that it was dressed out in full GTX trim and not a single soul ever said a word about it except for 'nice X man' lol
 
I would say 12K is a fair number. It is in much better shape than the basically same car I bought a year ago for 9500.

I was going to suggest a $9500 asking price. People expect more car when they are paying 5 figures for it.
 
the frame rail is killing it, and rust on the rocker...... these are typically the last areas to rot; it's all doable, but I'd have to assume it's much worse than average

If the rust is contained to the area the pic shows, about how many hours would it take you to fix it?

in the time it takes to somehow repair that mess; the entire rail, shock tower, and inner fender can be replaced with a clean donor section....... most likely the floor needs replaced, so that would already be out of the way.

it would add a couple of days, maybe 3 with trimming and cleanup of the new part.......

if the other side is crusty, replace it all at one shot; allow at least a solid week of additional labor plus some nice donor parts

Did it the right way for a friend and then he decided he didn't want to fix the other car that was also very clean but hit in the front. Hours of work.....pissed me off. I’m in it now restoring my 68 sport satellite rag top, you gotta live the car ... labor intensive is a understatement .. my wife says are you going to the Plymouth again? She knows I’m trying to get it done... it’s tough but good friends and a loving spouse make it better. If you figure a budget out take that number and multiply it by 4? I do really like the car.

But KD had a solid car to start with, so welding his front clip to solid metal was no big deal. This one will no doubt have rust, rust, and more rust.
