Can someone tell me what keeps the back rests from sliding off the "pegs" in the center of the seat?

Thanks

Just last week I installed a bench into my 69RR, I had no issues. I'm not sure I understand the question. I know I can help just not sure what you’re stating. In the center there are 2 horizontal pegs that stick out (if that’s what you’re indicating), the back of the seat needs to (say the driver side) lay forward on a 25 to 30 degree angle to the bench and the back part slides into the peg. It needs to slide on. Look into the hole where the peg slides so you can get an idea of the angle the back part need to slide in. If you like I can send a picture it might help?

Thanks for the response Frank....I know what you are talking about with the pegs....I leaned the seat forward, got the peg in the hole...and then the outer "hinge" on the outer peg. But when I then release the latch to lean the seat forward, sometimes it will slide off that outer peg...or even when I 'm sitting in the seat, the back rest will slide off. It's almost like there needs to be a retainer on the out peg or something.

Your right it's a retainer washer, take a look. Once you have the washer on (must be tight) the plastic over goes over that. Once you have the plastic cover on be careful, it doesn’t always fit when you’re putting the seat back. You may have to dermal (grind down) some of the plastic so it fits.

Glad you were able to get your question answered. So now I want to "hijack" your thread with another 69 RR bench seat question. My passenger side will not "latch" fully when I try to adjust the seat back/forward. The seat with someone in it will move forward or backward under braking or acceleration. Also where can I find the chrome handle for the knob to raise seat back forward?

Interesting question...............
When I had my bench out on a table upside down I noticed that the cable is very finicky, it needs to be set (the tension) just right or it won’t catch on the passenger side. If you don’t know the cable is connected to a hook under the seat. The hook is screwed to the front of the seat. The cable dose not run directly across the seat from the passenger side to the driver’s side. To adjust the tension on the cable you do that be screwing the hook in and out.
Hope that helps.
