Does anyone know, for certain, if 1971 Charger Super Bees that came with Concealed Headlights (from the factory) should have the A09 or L37 code on their fender tags?

Or are these two codes usually only found on the Broadcast sheet, but not on the fender tag?

I've seen a Super Bee with Concealed Headlights, that does not have the A09 or L37 code on the fender tag, and there is no Broadcast sheet for the car. In this case, is it not possible to determine if the Concealed lights are factory, or does the absence of A09 or L37 on the tag mean somebody swapped out the standard bumper/grill for the Concealed Headlight setup?

This car has the interior hood release, but no A09, L37 or J52 on the fender tag.

Come to think of it, I think A codes are "combination groups" and I did own a A93 (Deputy package) 71 Challenger, years ago. I had both fender tag AND Broadcast sheet for that car, and A93 was on the Broadcast sheet, but I can't remember if it was also on the fender tag..

L37 is on the tag of my Super Bee built in Lynch Rd. Since it required a hole in the firewall for the inside hood release Lynch Rd. tage would have it.

EDIT: I just checked both my 71 SE's which are also Lynch Rd. cars with hidden headlamps and they do not have the code. Perhaps SE's did not get the code since they are standard??

My LA built 71 Bee has A09 and L37 on the tag if that helps.

Thanks for the responses. This Super Bee was built in September 1970, at the LA plant. So, it's looking like this car did NOT come from the factory with concealed lights, or the inside hood release.. And therefore, it would need to be converted back to standard chrome bumper/grill/lights for a correct restoration.

Perhaps SE cars didn't get the code or codes, because the SE came standard with the concealed lights. That might make sense for an SE.

Anyone out there with a 71 Super Bee with concealed headlights that is documented (you have the Broadsheet sheet or Window sticker) showing the concealed lights, but no codes on your fender tag?

In addition, I question the black side stripes that are on the car, as it has been repainted in the past, so the stripes would not be the original stripes, if it really did come with them. This car's tag has the V21 Performance hood treatment code, but it is missing the V6X code. It has no V6 code at all, not even a V68 for stripe delete. I've seen the tag of one of the real 71 Hemi Super Bees, that has both hood graphic and side stripes. The Hemi car has both codes V21 and V6X alongside each other on its tag. So I assume a Super Bee that came with both hood graphic and side stripes, should have a code for each on the tag, not just a V21 alone.

Not having the Broadcast sheet makes things difficult to figure out. They didn't put every option on the tag/tags. And then you have to determine what should even be on the tag, and what would they have not put on it..

Generally won't find a BS in an LA build car. My 71 S BEE is a B03 build (Nov. 3 1970) and yes I have the A09 L37 and V21 and V6X codes on my tag so I would say your assumptions are correct. Is your car in the Super Bee registry?? Besides information you may find it listed from a previous owner the way it was built.

Is your first tag full and shows CTD in the upper right hand corner ?

My point is on mine , the V21 V6X show up on the second tag

I have seen second tags missing

I did not know that LA cars typically didn't have Broadcast Sheets.. I've never owned an LA built car before. The tag has no CTD. It does however, have 5 full rows of codes. The 6th, top row, only has two codes on the far left, 26 END. So there was still room on the tag for about 4 more codes. This is a factory 383 automatic car, the most common drivetrain.

But the following options currently on the car, are not on the fender tag: Concealed headlights, interior hood release, front spoiler, passenger side chrome racing mirror, black longitudinal side stripes. If it had all these options from the factory it would probably have needed a second fender tag. So someone did some customizing over the way it came stock, obviously preferring the hidden light setup.

Why no Broadcast Sheet in LA cars? Were any of the Hemi Bees or R/Ts built at LA without Broadcast Sheets?

I have two fender tags with options and equipment

My broadcast sheet has another 5 or so options/codes listed , that are not on the fender tags

What determined what got put on the fender tags when it came to options is a damn good question

Mine is St Louis built
