8-3/4" axle ratio?

It is a curse not being able to put down on paper what i know. I confuse others and others confuse me. I can show you easier than explain to you therefor i usually just do it myself.

And i know Mopars pretty good....just dont ask me to explain.

Just remember, always check with both wheels off the ground. The result will be accurate.Just don't try to run the engine through the gears and count at the same time! HAHAHA

That's ok, we understand. In Nebraska we call them Iowegians! Blue platers! HAHAHA
I can say that, my family is from (Coon Rapids/ Baird area) and my wife is from Council Tuckey!

And my cousins own the oldest original family owned farmstead in Iowa. Still a Brutsche Farm since 1856!.

I have been here too long if i am considered an Iowegian.....from MN....but maybe i have converted...dammit....i still think i am an outsider

So does the OP have a 2 something sure grip or a 4 something pegleg? Either way i am guessing truck diff and wore out.

And for the record i apologize to moparnation. I misread his first post and thought he was talking suregrip(posi) when he was talking about an open diff. I had suregrip on my brain and couldnt figure out why he had it backwards. Well i was the one who had it backwards. Sorry.

No you dont get to call me dude and we aint gonna hug either.

PP1RT,

Re your post.. 2 something sg, truck diff.

I got to thinking about the diff. If I recall, the guy I picked it up from might have said truck diff. Not positive though. But it would make sense and I'm suspect it's worn out too. However, I will solve this mystery later as I pop the sucker open! Stay tuned!

Thanks for the apology and I gladly accept that...Trust me I don't want a hug either but will settle for a handshake:thumbsup:

I confess I DO hug Mustang 'guys'; 2 sons& 1 daughter- all own stangs; I went wrong somewhere!

I have made a LOT of mistakes in life but thankfully there are no Mustang owners here....rumor has it there is a chevy tho...LOL

In the mid 70's I owned 5 Mudstains....all at the same time. 2 were fastbacks (65 and 66) and the others were coupes or hardtops but I learned my lesson only after a few years and went back to Mopars! :D Man, I never had so much crap break in my life when I owned those damn things and it's too bad since I really liked the fastbacks.

report: one lug nut rusted on so bad I can't get it off to take drum off on one side..to pull axles to get case out. Fighting me bad! However, I believe it is messed up because as I turn the axle on that side, the yoke might turn and it might not. Lol! It would turn for a second keeping up and then just stop and slightly turn.. No pattern..

I need to get torch and a BFH and I'll get it apart..

Ok what you do is raise the yoke off the rear wheel. Make sure it's only one wheel if an open axle, and for a posi grip keep both front wheels raised on the housing. Turn the steering wheel and count the revolutions of the rear blades for every turn of the axle flange. The driveshaft should rotate half times the number of turns and that is your numeric ratio

Ok, Ok sorry...just easin' the tension...:p

Sorry it's fighting you so bad! If these guys are right...and often they are... you "might" have 4.10 gears in a non-posi (or blown posi) rear end. That's not all bad, if you just need the gears.

Purple, as I've been so frequently reminded these old mopars more often fight the living heck out of you! But it won't win! I got dynamite!

If we wanted easy, we'd built small block Chevies & just be "one in the crowd". Think about what the muscle car Olds & Pontiac...not to mention Cadillac, guys go through! At least we have Ma Mopar & Mopar Performance!

Ok the dynamite worked! Actually it was a really BFH!

43 teeth

Here's a couple pics

Marked one of the teeth and turned yoke almost 4 times to be back to mark..

Forgot to add 11 teeth on pinion
So if my calculations are correct, we're looking at 3.91 gears.

Unfortunately all that for gears you're not interested in! Sorry, We tried!
