8 3/4 rebuild

If there is anyway to upgrade to a Dana I would do that. If/when you sell it you'll get your money back and in the mean time on Saturday nights you'll be glad you have it when it comes to a little... or a lot of spirited driving:thumbsup:

I've heard a lot of people say this or that had a mini spool in it. So far I'm batting 0 on that one. Are both rear tires locked together 24/7?

Ok here's my thought. Run the rear end the way it is with the mini spool and 3.55 gears until I blow it up. Save for the S60. That way I can afford the espo springs/hangers and bilstein shocks.

It's your car do whatever you want with it, it'll probaly be fine until you get traction.

Yea, I'm running 285/45/17 pro touring tires so I shouldn't hook too much. I appreciate all the input. Expensive decision. Easily have 5gs into rear suspension rear end if not careful.

It doesn't take long to dump a ton of money into a car....especially if you have to have others work on it and even when you do your own work, it's still not cheap.

Boy cranky you got that right. I have done as much as I feel comfortable doing. I'm all about tear down and build up, but I have no idea how to set backlash, etc. if I screwed it up, then I'm paying double for someone else to fix my mistake. Lol.

Had the same thoughts over 30 years ago.....before anyone had the internet. Now it's even easier to get info on how to do things. It turned out to be pretty easy and especially so since I was a machinist with access to dial indicators etc. Setting backlash is the easier part vs setting pinion depth and having the right spanner wrench for the side adjusters but a lot of people just use a hammer and punch for that which I hate to see. When I got started it was hard to find a shop that would even consider doing one let alone know how so I ended up learning because of necessity and the next thing I know, people are coming to me to do theirs and it went down hill from there. Now I'm an old fart and just can't lift that 80 lb chunk like I used to could. I can still swap one out in a car using a floor jack but it's trying to put it up on a bench that gets me. I could hang a hoist in my assembly room but I just don't do that many anymore....
