I've got my gauge cluster disassembled and i've run into a few issues. I'd like to paint my gauge needles as the sun hasn't been too kind to them. However, the speedometer needle is a bit fragile and I don't want to break it. How do you remove it? It seems like it just pulls off, but these things don't grow on trees, so i'm asking to be sure.

Also, it seems like the whole face plate was chromed, then masked off and the black areas were painted over the plating. Most of the chrome on my face plate is now gone and I was curious if anyone had a good close up picture of how this thing should look. For example, what areas should still be chrome and what should be painted black. I will be spraying the chrome this weekend hopefully, so i'd like to get the prep work done this week.

Thanks in advance guys!

Don't really know how the '67 exactly goes but years following that had the needle popped on and preloaded with a spring. I'd be pretty weary pulling that off, unless you study the set up on the backside for a while first. Couple i've done, I left the needles on and just slid a regular notecard under them to support, then paint the needle

Good luck.

Thanks Prop. I had planned on using a card to "mask" and support the needle. I guess it's not something that was ever designed to be messed with. So maybe i should just leave it alone. The other thing i guess is, what color are these needles supposed to be painted? I've seen some orange and some almost red, anybody have a clue?
