In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
OK;I've "quit" numerous times in the past 30+ years, only to lose my mind over some BS and start again. At my advanced age,it's time to do it for good. I've chewed a forest worth of toothpicks and am using a patch;well, patches(one per day) and so far,so good. As long as my daughter doesn't drive me crazy with her latest antics:angry9:,and the ol' lady with hers:angryfire: and,and...

Wish me luck,brethren.

you can do it. those things are nasty and they will take their toll on you. just think , you will be saving $1,825.00 a year you could be putting in the gas tank!

Good luck Al. If I tied what you are doing, i'd have to have a patch on both arms.

good luck!i've learned a lot about addiction lately with a family member in rehab so i know how hard it is.you can do it

Good luck Al....Though gig! Ditch the patches...You didn't need'em to start smoking, why the hell would you need'em to quit..lol Will power amigo.

Glad to hear you're quitting. It sucks, but here's what sucks worse... my Dad was supposed to have quit smoking back in 1969, but all he really did was quit smoking at home. He still smoked at work, right up until 1985 when he was sitting at a traffic light and found he couldn't control his hands anymore. Turned out he had emphysema and he had to live out the rest of his life knowing he was in perfect shape... no cholesterol issues, no heart issues, no blood pressure issues, no health issues of any kind except he was slowly losing his ability to breathe thanks to smoking. He would still be alive today if he had just quit in 1969.

i've been trying to quit/cut down for a while now, but just like you said, something always comes up!!!

good luck Al!!

Good luck Al,
Gee, I have NEVER smoked once in my life!
BUT: Remember what Samuel Clemence (Mark Twain) once said: "Quitting Tobacco is EASY, I've done it thousands of times"

Again, this time...do it!

just replace it with driving....everytime you need a cigarette take the mopar out....new addiction but way more fun

I smoked for 12 years. Quit when I was 26. Wore the patch for 2 weeks and had a raquet ball I would bounce of the block wall at work to keep from smoking. My arm felt like it was going to fall off from throwing it so many times. And that was 12 years ago. Best thing I ever did. It also helped that a good friend of mine quit at the same time. It became a competition to see who could go longer without one. We are still going.

Wish you luck AL,i chewed skoal for the better part of 20 years and is a nasty and a very tough habit to quit.3 years ago i said to myself thats it and quit, starting to take its toll on the teeth and i want to be around to walk my 2 daughters down the isle on there big day.Really hard the 1st year being in the bridge construction trade where half the guys do it.Now 3 years later i almost wanna puke when i smell it.

I quit, "I hope", for the last time, "cold turkey" about 10 or so years ago, patches & gum don't work for me... I smoked cigs maybe 3 or so pack a week {Marlboro's} & stogies probably 5 a day {Swisher Sweets & high end Rothschild's too}, I still have craving every once in a while, especially for a good stogie, it's not an easy thing to do, to quit... it's just really breaking/changing the string of ingrained repetitious bad habits, more than the tobacco to me... You need to "stay strong", you will be much better off, in the long run... Just think food taste better, beer taste better, you will breath better, you will be healthier, you will not smell like an ashtray anymore, you will save allot of time & money too, not having to run to the damn store &/or take a damn smoke break, you might even live longer.... good luck keep up the good work...

I was a chewer, about a can every 3 days of Kodiak &/or Skoal since HS, long before I was a smoker, that was even harder to stop IMHFO... started just because of bad decisions, while young not worrying about the long term issues/consequences... It's well worth the suffering to get healthy, not have the disgusting tobacco habits any longer...

My wife was a long time smoker before we met. About 3 years into our marriage, she was ready to quit. But she needed a little support. So she saw our doc and he put her on Zyban (Welbutrin). He told her to keep smoking and the medication would make her quit. She quit in less than a week and has not taken a drag in 15 years. Good luck Al. Remember if it gets real bad, there's nothing wrong with askin for help.

Hey Al, best of luck with quitting. I work in a business that delivers homecare equipment, and the majority of our patients are on their way out from smoking related illnesses. I've seen some scary, tragic scenes with people dying. It's the best thing you can do for your long term health, and I wish you all the best kicking the cigs. Draw upon the strength of the Raider Nation! You can do this!

Thanks for all the support, guys;it is appreciated. Tried Zyban years ago,got me an overnight stay in jail for fighting. Stuff made me effing MEAN. All I wanted to do was fight on that crap. Not good...went back to smoking and calmed down. A little bit, anyway.

Good Luck!!!! I have tried and failed many times, but I just keep on trying. Maybe someday I'll win :)

Hang in there and don't give up, it's a super difficult road you are about to take. I have been free now for 13 years and 52 lbs heavier, the good news is I have been dieting for 2,1/2 months. Good luck and be strong.

Duda yeah it's easy to replace smoking or chewing with eating, I struggle sometimes, with too much food intake myself, get bored then eat, it's a bad habit for sure...
