okay going to change my valve springs, locks, retainers and stem seals on the 440 stealth heads tonite, i have never done this before and hoping some one had advice on best/safest way to do it, i have head on tool and head off tool,

also if you could tell me which way the seals go in and how the locks work, i am sure i will figure it out when puling them but want to be 100 % right the first time.

thanks in advance gents

Dont know which tool you have but this one I bought from Mancini works great. What I like about it is you screw the allen head screw down to push the spring down and then it stays there so you can use both hands to take the spring off and on. I like to put some thick grease like wheel bearing grease or white lube on the valve where the keepers go so they stick there when you are putting them back on. What type of seals are you putting on ? Do you have the adapter to put air in the cyl. Some people use a rope and push it in thru the plug hole to fill the cyl and hold the valve up but I use comp air. Ron

hey ron,

i have the hughes head on type and an old head off type i tried to buy the mancini buy they were out of stock unfortunately, i also have the adaptor for the air compressor for holding the valves up, the seals i bought 2 types i got the standard rubber ones and i also bought the white teflon ones not sure which to use. where do they lock go at the top near the collet hey?

You really need to know the pressure at the factory installed height. The procedure is to measure the height between the retainer and spring seat on the head, and hope it's within factory tolerance, then compress the spring on a scale to the measured height and read how much force you have in pounds. The spring data should be on the cam card or just call the manufacturer.

For the seal installation, assuming you are using the little white teflon seals, is to put the thin plastic tube over the valve stem keeper area so you don't slice a chunk out of the seal as they slide by.
