I am wondering if anyone here has had experience with the AMD reproduction bumpers? I am looking at getting a pair for my 71 GTX as the originals are in really bad shape, twisted dented and the rear has a hole from where the trailer wiring plug used to be.
Anyone have an opinion on whether they are decent or if I should bite the bullet and get mine redone. The car will be a driver but I don't want something that looks bad on it.
Thanks.

I had this discussion with a supplier of both. His opinion which I used. Go with repop as it is closer to original. Bumpers of this vintage were cheaply done. Rechroming is over the top in terms of comparable quality to the original.

AMD bumper $399. If you can redo yours for anywhere close to that, go for it. Ain't gonna happen.

Thanks for the words of wizdom, I'm going to order up a pair of AMD bumpers!

Got a AMD front bumper this spring. Its good quality. Rechrome out of the question in terms of $$$$$.

I'm replating mine and it is 475 a piece to my door. Souix City Chrome.

If I had to do all it over again, I would probably go with the repop bumpers. I had mine done by Pauls and it wasn't cheap. The quality was outstanding however.

when i was restoring my 68 i ordered amd bumpers, the rear was in stock but the front wasnt so i bought a rechromed front. the aftermarket rear had a small gap where it turns forward by the rt tail lamp bezel but the chrome looked ok. the front came in and wasnt straightened correctly where it was bent in the middle so it didnt exactly match the contour of the valance panel. then in about 6 months the chrome peeled on both ends outboard of the turn signals. if i had to do it over i would have waited on amd front as well. (way less wrong with aftermarket than oem rechromed) cars been done since 13 and the rear looks good still.

I got the rear bumper rechromed by Ogden Chrome and it looks outstanding and way better than the front bumper as far as finish. Honestly though you really have to look to see the difference between my bumpers. Just driving around you'd never know. The only reason I did the rear one is because Ogden Chrome gave me a 20% military discount which brought the replating to about $370. My front bumper was too far gone and bent to crap cause someone used it as a tow hook at some point in it's life and was cheaper to go repop. Now with all the EPA regs chrome is getting horribly expensive.

I would probably buy AMD, but they don't reproduce older Mopars.(55-66) So, I have to hunt and peck for the most reliable shop.

Do they offer free shipping both ways still?

Yeah I believe so, they have a website. I know they do over the phone quotes as well but I'm not sure how accurate they are.

Best reasoning ever from finishing.com a site that anyone into our cars should look at:

"When an item needs "re-chroming", understand what is really involved: stripping the chrome, stripping the nickel (and the copper if applicable), then polishing out all of the scratches and blemishes (they can't be plated over and any scratches will show after plating), then plating with copper and "mush buffing" to squash copper into any tiny pits, then starting the whole process described above.
Unfortunately, simply re-plating an old piece may cost several times what a replacement would cost. It's the old story of labor cost. The new item requires far less prep work, and an operator or machine can handle dozens of identical parts at the same time whereas a mix of old parts cannot be processed simultaneously, but must be processed one item at a time. If a plater has to spend a whole day on your parts, don't expect it to cost less than what a plumber or mechanic would charge you for a day of their time."
