Another opinion needed on this deal

Hard to say but if you take the emotion out of the equation you will probably do well. I love B bodies but I think your Challenger is a more desirable car. Maybe if the GTX was black or R6 red with a 4 spd and an air grabber or factory A/C then I might see the appeal.

I think you may be right......I guess I will keep searching--and posting these opinon posts!

Thanks again.

wow he is freakin nuts 10g plus your car . tell him to go and *#@#&@ himself find another car with somone who isnt a jerk ,im sick of stupid hillbillys thinkin they have the best car in the world and its just another P.O.S. . believe me you will find one much better for less.

Definately get as much of an education on the B platform as you can before you get rid of that beautiful and highly desireable Challenger (and possibly wind up on the losing end).

If I were you...I would keep the e-body. I know this is a b-body forum and I love them...But your car, sb or not I wouldn't get rid of it unless he is dropping cash on you. Not the other way around.

that is a nice ride.....but so is yours!.....
these guys need to make a buck, but not a fortune....
BTW; I would like to take a peek under that trunk mat.
my feelings, if you want it deal for it....you only live once.
best of luck,
Sonny Black

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

As for looking under that trunk mat--I would send an inspector down there to inspect and take pictures of everything before I go 2000 miles for any car.....the last guy I sent actually took the time to check the rear 1/4's on my Challenger with magnets, checked the block and trans #'s for matching, drove it and sent me 140 pics!

here is another...same price, not numbers, but better color and it's a 4 speed......I made an inquiry--I want to see if it still has the fender tag or build sheet since it says original R6 color and Super Track Pack. You can see the Air Grabber so there are 2 good options. we will see what happens and how flexible the price is....and less than 1000 miles away this time.....

Considering what is missing,Wheel moldings and staimless trim on the rockers..I,d say the car has had some rust issues in the past...I would stay away from this one.. 40 grand is alot of dough...Of course he,ll trade you your car is worth more!!!
Petty Blue 67 gTx

Your Challenger R/T rough is worth more than the GTX perfect sense its not a Hime car.

Referencing my post above (#22) you would think I had a premonition!! This one looks very nice. Hopefully it has the documentation to prove the options. Non numbers may give you some bargaining power.

I'll just reinforce what everyone else is telling you. 18 pics of the GTX and only 1 of your car and I believe you've got the better car.

No way that GTX is worth 40k, more like 20 to 25 tops. Lots of incorrect parts on it and parts missing too. I own both B-body's and E-body's, so I'm not really biased towards either one. Just my opinion, keep looking or have him give you the X and 10k. Good luck.

Here is a pic of the vin stamp on a `68 440 from a Dodge with the engine in the car. I'd have them prove that the vin is not stamped on the block and trans before making a deal. If the engine and trans were original and stamped the numbers would be adjacent to eachother in this pic. unless it was a 4spd, those numbers would be on the side of the trans as they are in `69 and later.

That's the first one...take a look at the second one I just posted...

Having "fixed" a number of 1968-70 B bodies in the mid 1970s with a thick layer of body putty nearly always meant that we had to leave the wheel opening moldings off. That was the very first thing I noticed when I looked at the first car's images. To me this is a huge red flag.

No way I'd trade that 71 4 gear Chally for a GTX with that many issues...the trunk splatter paint is either hiding something, OR is the sign of a half-assed resto job. Also, plenty of things wrong under the hood like the wrong rad, shroud, plug wires, hose clamps, etc. I'd keep your car first, or would look for a better B Body trade deal. Be patient and you'll find the right one.

For almost 40k, that car is waaay overpriced in today's market based on condition. Anything over 20-25k for it, in its current condition, would be a gift, IMO. Just my .02 worth.

I noticed the issues on the first car as well.....I also posted a link to another, better looking car. Still not cheap, but negotiations have not started yet. Just contacted the dealer. Take a look...
