I recently bought a 2012 Ram sport.

It has an aftermkt radio in it...that i would like to remove and reinstall the oem radio that came with it.

The factory antenna lead was cut.
So i will be replacing it with OEM.

I had the radio in and connected ...but all it does it power up.
But No sound ...not even static.
And none of the radio controls do anything .

Ive searched and read i need some code to repower the radio if disconnected

is it asking for a code? if so a dodge dealer can give you the code but they will need the vin of the truck and the serial number off of the radio.
if it's not asking for the code it is either bad wiring or bad radio/amp
NO AUDIO - BUT RADIO LIGHTS UP

1. Antenna problem.

Perform the "Poor or No AM/FM Audio Reception" test refer to Section 29 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/Audio/Video - Diagnosis and Testing).

2. Radio or Amplifier (if equipped) connector damaged.

Check for loose or corroded radio/amplifier connector. Repair, as required.

3. Wiring damaged.

Check for shorted or open wires. Repair wiring as required.

4. Radio or Amplifier (if equipped) ground damaged.

Check for continuity between radio chassis and a known good ground. There should be continuity. Repair ground as required.

5. Amplifier (if equipped) inoperative.

Refer to Section 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/AMPLIFIER (AMP)/Diagnosis and Testing.

6. Speakers inoperative.

Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/RADIO/Diagnosis and Testing.

I dont remember seeing any wording asking for a code. BUT, maybe it did and I missed it.

In regards to an amplifier on it, I have no idea .

Code on the radio face says its RES .
does said radio require an amp ?

Pictures of the radio I have are shown . It has multiple connections on the backside,,,but my truck only has 1 wiring plug that I found that plugs into it
The display lights up, but I get no channel selection or sound of any kind

So put the aftermkt back in for now. But I would prefer the OEM radio if I can make it work

I don't think with that radio it does, that radio was used in a number of vehicles and the other vehicles could use the other plugs. It does sound like the radio is in theft mode and the code will need to be entered. the code can be had but a vin and the serial number of the radio is needed.

Thanks. Im off friday so will contact my local dealer and get this code and get an antenna lead ordered
