Yup, top voltage for charging is set lower for an agm, due to its construction.I have 2 different battery chargers that have "battery type" selector switches. Lead acid "wet cell" is typical, but Optima batteries, which I own 4 of in 4 different applications and they are GREAT, are "AGM" batteries. If you charge them you must use the AGM setting to avoid damaging them and to assure proper charging. AGM batteries, for example, do not build up plate residue that would require a desulfating phase like lead acid "wet cell" PLATE batteries do.

I would if my old one was better than what it is....If that isn't available
Buy yourself a new one
And swap in your old
She's using part of 'our' money to buy it. The more she spends now, the less she'll end up with later with things are final.I would simply buy one that sufficed.
No sense buying an optima or battery w more than 700 CCA

I think the best thing about Wal-Mart batteries is that they do not spend a lot of time on the shelf...always seem to have fresh ones compared to some of the oreillys and napa I've seen...I'm with Wile E. Nothing wrong with a Walmart battery.
I have gotten good results with Walmart and Farm & Fleet (Wisc, Ill, & IA) batteries.
If memory serves me correctly, all batteries are made by one of only 3 or 4 companies, regardless of the name on the front.
A battery can sit on the shelf a life time with no acid in it with no ill efects. All you have to do is ask.I think the best thing about Wal-Mart batteries is that they do not spend a lot of time on the shelf...always seem to have fresh ones compared to some of the oreillys and napa I've seen...
I've bought from everyone listed and they were always wet....no-one ever added acid to them at purchase... So they are effectively on the clock... Years ago you could find replacement acid to freshen them up but I haven't seen that in years.A battery can sit on the shelf a life time with no acid in it with no ill efects. YES!!!Do I need a different type of maintainer for the Optima ?

1. Because desulfating cycle for lead acid battery plates is a function of a battery charger, not an alternator, andQuestion:
Putting a lead-acid or agm in your vechile and the battery charges. The vechile knows no difference what you put in it. Why would the battery know if it was being charged buy the vechile or a charger?

I do know they make it as our old SEPSS systems at Motorola housed 300+ wet cell batteries for our UPS Data Centers... Guys were always out replacing the acid...
