I need to dye a set of blue rear armrests I picked up on here black... any advice or product recommendations for the leather dye... I thought it would be straight forward but there seems to be a lot of different products on the market?

Thanks!

SEM, they sell a kit with cleaner, primer, color. I've had great luck with it..

Yep x2 for SEM Colorcoat, nice flat finish (not all semi-glossy like most of the other crap out there), pretty cheap price, and tough as hell. Used it to dye all my tan interior pads black for the Charger

I wish I could find a Canadian supplier for this stuff I'm going to get r@ped again like I did for the Krylon spray paint I ordered :(

Why paint over just a leather shoe dye? that is what I was planning to use? (glad I asked first)

Edit: looks like I can get at CARQUEST about 20 minutes from me but it will most likely be special order... just need enough to do 2 armrest pads :(

Can't say for sure on the shoe dye since I've never tried it, but does Summit Racing have reasonable shipping to your area up there? They have colorcoat pretty cheap and I would think only one can should be enough for two armrest pads :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Speedy. Ya Summit has about the best service out of everyone I've ordered from. I'll have a look.

Any specific Black you used I noticed a few options on the SEM site?

Just checked Summit... they can't ship Aerosol can's internationally.

I see Landau Black and Satin Black

Lol everywhere I see it it's $12 for the paint and $26 to ship!

Ah bummer, I was wondering if that would be the case.. the one I used was satin black #15243, and it was perfect for me but I've heard good things about the landau black too

I use landau black, it matched closest to my truck's dash (74 w300). If you can't get it, we are planning our dive trips soon, and probably headed to lake Ontario in the spring...

SEM is common around here, lots of places carry it. I've always found it to provide an even finish and is quite durable.

I'm going to have to call the CARQUEST stores listed as SEM suppliers and see if they stock it or can order it... when I look on CARQUEST.ca nothing comes up under a search for SEM so maybe I'll have better luck talking to someone.

That'd probably be the best option, and if they can order it in for you maybe get a can each of satin and landau to see what matches best. (I was doing all my pads so I didn't really have to match to anything)

I agree with beastly.....SEM is the way to go for painting VINYL....... but you mentioned leather.........if the arm rests you bought are covered in leather that is a different game all together........

Ordered a can of SEM Color Coat Satin Black from CARQUEST this morning $20 CAD so not terrible. I'll try and post before and after pics in here when my paint comes in

Any good automotive paint supplier should be able to mix you any color you want in a formula that will be flexible enough to use on arm rests. The one I use even puts it in a "rattle can". It'n not cheap ( about $22.00 per can) but has worked great for me.
