whats the best gear ratio? I have a 73 rr clone going to be mostly driven on the street but occasional track

You need to give a little more info, I think like your engine/ trans combo? 3.55's are great but maybe you don't need that much. 3.23's might suit you better on the highway. Maybe you have a cam that the manufacturer recommends 3.73's for- not awesome on the highway unless you have an o/d trans.

Like 2012 said there can be variables that affect what you want. However, I had 3.23 on my Roadrunner and didn't like them. Swapped out for 3.55 and can't be happier. Gives the pop from throttle off the line but it's not rapped out on the highway.

What the rpm,s at 65mph with the 3:55?

Also think about your location. Hilly ? Flat ? 2 lanes with lots of twists and turns ? or mostly open highway ? For me it's 75 MPH highways in any direction 3 miles from home, flat and straight. 3.55 is a good compromise.

275/60/15 (28 inch) tire and 3.55 gears at 65 will give you around 2800 RPMS with an auto tranny and a little lower with a manual tranny. Like 1967coronet440 said it depends on the tire size.

I like my 3.55s also, at the track it runs mid 12s and cruises with traffic at 3000 rpms. Mild build 440 auto 4200 stall pump gas.

It depends on terrain and what you are looking for, but mainly transmission. I could do 4:30 with the right OD transmission. Last car was setup(340-904) with 3:27 rear gears(8.8), which should meet all the cars owners needs. They lived more in the country.

These guys are all nuttier than squirrel turds. 4.10's is all ya need.

I'm really guessing, but for acceleration a 3.91 would be good. For general driving a 3.55 would be good. 3.23 is really tame.

Squirrel turds, lol. Rabbit pellets--my choice is 3.55/3.73. Good compromise either way.

Would that be a possible track time coming out of a 383? Also what cam do you have in your 440 could it work with my eninge? Also I'm just looking to get a port and polish job done and headers so would 12s be possible

The cam I run I bought off ebay. I was just getting part together to run a solid roller. As far as I can remember it seemed like a cheater cam, it had the duration of a stock 6 pack cam but had 586 lift. The guy I bought it from said it was a custom grind from comp cams. The box he sent it in only had 2 or 3 more degrees of duration I believe so he didn't change much. I figured he was a nastalgic type racer. Porting the heads makes a big difference in performance to. I'm running edelbrock open chamber ootb.

I was recommended a cam with a .509 lift with 292 duration could I get similar times with a cam like that
