Brakes Frozen Worse Than Disney

Sitting for three years took a serious toll on my Roadrunner's brakes. :(

The brake pedal is completely locked up. Will not budge. I pulled the cover off the master cylinder and it looked like Hell in there! The fluid was a brown/red color and the rubber gasket had partially deployed and fluid was on top of it. No idea how that happened.

I ordered a new booster/master cylinder from O'Reillys for $117 and hope to get it in this weekend.
 
Well, this is about the last hurdle to get over. I also need to fix some wiring issues related to when some aholes stole my stereo. They tore a bunch of wires loose and I need to get them where they need to go. Then the brakes are the last thing to do.
 
Bru, pull it apart and clean it/lube it up. I just did this over the weekend on a single pot 66 Riviera. brake cleen, bluid, penetrating oil, compressed air. Brakes actually work great.

Tons of crude but the bore and seal survived.

Give it a shot while you wait...
 
In all honesty, the brakes were an issue before the swap. No matter how many times I bled them, they still felt a little spongy, so I had been planning on replacing the booster and cylinder at some point.

I'm hoping the lines are okay. I had fluid coming out when I took the front calipers off when I was replacing the ball joints a couple of months ago, and I replaced the rear lines when I swapped out the 8.25 rear for an 8.75, so they're new.

I was going to tear it down, but a new one is $117, so it wasn't worth the time.
 
Bruzilla, in all my years as a mechanic the only time I have seen that is when someone puts the wrong fluid in the master cylinder. As in power steering or something else. The really bad news is your going to have to replace all the hoses and rebuild both the calipers and/or all the wheel cylinders. Don't just replace the master cylinder or it will just get contaminated again from the junk that is in the system. I been there and done that.
 
swollen rubber seal inside the master would indicate other fluid has been put inside.if the seal is just poped down due to low fluid you should be ok.just make sure to drain all the fluid out of your ride and start with all new fluid.brake fluid absorbs water like crazy,so get all the old fluid out first.

I suspect that what happened to the seal as I removed both of the calipers when replacing the ball joints and I disconnected the brake lines in the back when changing the rear ends and there was quite a bit of fluid leakage. The fluid looked good, so I had no worries until I looked in the master and saw it had apparently rusted up in there.
 
Got the new booster/master in this weekend. What a major PITA that pin that links the booster to the pedal assembly is to get in!!!
