A friend of mine picked up a sweet rotating assembly to make a 600" Brewer big block crank was cut .010 under as he assembled he did not check his end play resulting in .002 and it started to destroy his thrust bearing lucky he caught it on start up as the relief valve opened as debris enter his oil pump and lowered the pressure so he is now cutting .008 off the crank wow was he lucky cant wait to see that puppy run now low 8s
 
I would trim the thrust bearing flange instead. If the bearing was a bit large, the next time he goes in for new mains, cutting the crank could result in a clearance that is too large. Trimming the bearing flange with a file will be cheaper too.
 
the crank grinder took .005 on 1 side and .003 on the other and it cleaned up nicely

who ever ground the mains .010 forgot to do the sides wow !!
