Hey all, just thought I would show you a pic of my new seats. I had a bench and it was going to be stupid money me too get it reupholstered so I have been keeping my eye on the junkyard for something to put in til i figure out what I wanted. The other day a crashed caddy cts showed up with dark gray leather, heated, power seats. I have a black interior so i thought 'perfect'. I picked them up for just $125 for the pair and I pulled out the wiring harness, well, the first foot of it, so I had a connector.

It took a few minutes to figure out the wiring but they are super easy to get going. I have all the controls working, and by next winter I'm sure I'll have the heaters sorted too. There were a couple tabs on the bottom tracks that I had to cut off and weld on my own tabs to make them sit level and bolt in easily but that was pretty easy.

Total project time was about 3 hours including 1 hour to pull them out of the cts. Let me tell you, those dudes at GM sure do know how to make a comfy seat! And as an added bonus the shoulder strap and lap belt are built into the seat so it has a modern seat belt, something that some passengers seem to care about ;) lol

I dig it!!

I have been thinking about finding a set of used OEM type seats for my 70 RR....can you post some pics of what you did to the tracks to make them work? How is the seat height?

thanks

Price out what people want for a pair of 68-70 bucket seats. That will not only need to be recovered, new foam and the tracks repaired and painted. You can see that finding bucket seats out of a newer car isn't suck a bad idea. Especially when you compare prices. For my wife's 70 Coronet we looked for 68-70 bucket seats. Then started looking at newer Charger and 300 seats. That's how we ended up with a wrecked 2005 300c for 600 bucks. Which is what lead us done the path of going to attempt the 70 Coronet over the 300c chassis/unibody. Worst case is if it doesn't work we got a complete interior (front seats, rear seat, center console and dash) for 600 bucks. Plus the wiring harnesses, ECU, TCU and other parts to sell.

Great score btw.

The wallet is the mother of invention. :)

I have a CTS and you are right, the seats are comfy. Nice job.

Hey sorry for the delayed reply, work has been nuts. I'm putting together some photos and info and will do a detailed post shortly.

Next up is the power moon roof from a volvo cross country. I never should have moved my studio next to a bone yard :)

Yeah, I'm totally with you on this one. And honestly if you arent doing a real restoration, the newer seats are way more comfortable. I ended up also taking the back seat out of the caddy and dropping that in as well. It fit really well and I'm in for under $200 for both fronts and the rear. I even pulled out the back seatbelt retractors and kid seat tie down points in case i ever want a matching set of all that to install.

i'm redoing a 64 400,i want the shoulder strap belts so i scrounged around a junk yard and found a leather bench from a 2002 lesabre that the belts are part of the seat.all electronic no heat with a cup holder and a storage compartment lol. works for me

Those look nice in your car! Ive got some chevy buckets in mine that I don't like. Ive got some old 86 Daytona seats that Ive been considering as they only need touch up dye (leather) The shoulder belt is a bonus in those along with lumbar, power and heat. A bench is what I was looking for but the prices are out there. Something I didn't know prior to purchasing a 70 without seats. Cool write up thanks for posting it.

great post on the seat swap @ scottlanes!!!. Witch City Customs great name!!!!

Nice!! But I just don't see how any seat that anchors the shoulder belt can restrain you in a hard impact. There's just not enough framework imo...

The lap belts certainly have enough framework, once bolted in you could lift the car by them. I havent taken them apart so i dont really know how much steel is in the back, but it is really rigid. my guess is there is some steel structure that is vertical on the edge of the seat with the shoulder belt. Next time I see one in the junkyard thats trashed I'll cut it open and report back. :)

Nice work on the sunroof and seats.... Like that you keep it cheap too. Keep it up and let us know what your next project will be.

Thanks!

Next up is a new console (half built so far) and a set of Hella projector/ellipsoidal headlights I got out of a BMW. The lens diameter is nearly the same, should be good :)

I have a boneyard addiction :)
