69 roadrunner. New car for me. First two times filling up it shuts off around 3/4 tank. A faulty gauge or specific way to get more full?

The gauge may be reading 3/4 full but the tank probably is full. Replacement parts that register the signal for the gauge are often inaccurate.

Our tanks hold 19 gallons. The sending unit on the tank has 2 or 3 functions.
1) Send a signal to the instrument cluster fuel level gauge.
2) Hose nipple for the fuel line to attach to send fuel forward to the engine.
3) Vent nipple for emission reduction/ventilation.

Some cars don’t have that #3 vent nipple.

Is the fuel pissing out the filler neck, or at least visable? Pretty easy to tell it's full or not....

You’re most likely full. My 74 Challenger does the same thing. It could be the sending unit. Some people bend the arm a bit.

I set the new tank and sensor next to the car and used jumper wires and calibrated the tank to the gauge before install.

No overfill but one of the things I was concerned about. Didn’t look down the neck tho. Thanks.
