Heading up to Sacramento tomorrow to check out this:

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/3796523419.html

Talked to the owner and so far it sounds good. Good package deal too. I can use parts off my current 383 and swap them over to this one. Just sucks that I am having to do this but I gotta get this car up and running properly. Thanks to Brother Jon, aka 69A100 here on FBBO for searching out and finding this one.:headbang: Otherwise, I am done with this part of my Hobby Life....Got cash in the pocket and hopefully a good deal for both parties can be struck...cr8crshr/Tuck:headbang: Daffy New Update 002.jpg

no valve reliefs in the pistons, probably low compression, I would ask as much as possible about the combo, parts #'s etc, a 383/0.030" over & a 509 cam for $1000 ain't exactly cheap, anything else come with it ??, they aren't all that rare, just a few years ago I bought 5 complete 68-70 383's for less than that, 2 ran & had all the accessories, 3 were all there, didn't know if they ran or not, but needed to be rebuilt, but it may be tougher to find nowadays... you may have to travel some... I'm not a big fan of the MP Purple Shaft 509 cams either, especially the older ones, the newer grinds are better, still allot better camshafts out there, depends on what your looken' for, if you want a bumpty bump cam that make very little vacuum at idle, power brake don't like too well, that's you cam, they can be made to work, just not ideal IMHFO... Good luck with your project, I'm sure your tired of the engine wows/issues from the last builder... Is yours not re-buildable ?? maybe go to a stroker 400 kit for about double what your looking at now, if you block isn't to far gone or what ever reason... lots of ways to skin a cat...

I'd consider pulling that .509" cam and replacing it with something more streetable. Any traceability to the work done? Piston P/N's, etc..?

Budnicks and Meep Meep...Thanks for the suggestions. Cam although included is not a player. It comes with the package so I might re-coup some of the expense by selling it. Going with a different Cam from Hughes Engines as that is the only Brand of Cams I use. Probably the same as what is in my current motor. I have thought about stroking this one in the car but by the time it is all done, I will have spent over 6000.00 for the present motor. That includes the initial out lay for the "Clown" builder that did it first and then pulling it and tearing it down to have a Machine Shop check it and then the 2000.00 plus fro 440Source for their Stroker Kit. I am on a really tight and fixed budget so if this block is in good shape then I can use it along with other parts from my current 383 to get this project up and running. The machine work on this block was done by a reputable shop, Boyton Bros up in Sacramento of which I am aware of as doing great work. But I have a long list of questions and any thing that leaves me with less than a positive feeling, I will walk away and try for something later. I do have a couple of more 383's that will also fit the bill.....

cr8crshr good luck, you've earned it...LOL....

He's got a couple other leads that I gave him on motors, one of which has a tranny as well that would kill 2 birds with one stone if this deal falls thru.
