I'm finding that driving in the city in the "2" gear on my column shift automatic trans is a better way to go instead of "D". I'm talking about speeds of 0-40ish mph. Better power. Also good for street racing in case someone wants to have a match. Also, the trans tends to be a little clunky always driving in "D". It just seems like "2" on my 904 feels like a higher gear than, say my Toyota's manual 2nd gear.

Apologies if I'm saying something dumb or obvious here.

Anyone else drive around town in "2" and leave "D" for the highways?

Mine isn't a 904tf, but here in the stick when I drive in the hills allot, when the speed limit is below 40 I run my 99 4x4 Dakota SLT 5.2ltr/318ci around in second gear {it has a kind of TALL second gear} so it wont be up & downshifting all the time.... I can hold my foot on the throttle in the same place, constant speeds {like 2200rpm}, instead of it shifting all the time, up & down between 1500-2500 2-3rd, I have 32" tall tires & 3.54:1 gears thou, but anything past about 40 or so up-to 55 I just turn off the O/D lockup converter, if I'm climbing the hill or something, but on flat ground, I just leave it in Drive/3rd - O/D so my fuel mileage isn't too bad.... my BB RR with a 727tf & 3.23:1 gears is in 3rd in about a block, with the original automatic valve-body, throttle pressure valve linkage hooked up & adjusted properly, it had no issues with lugging, worked great, even at speeds under 40...
