hi all another quick question….. Were these always plastic and one time use in the 72 plymouths?

The originals are nylon, not plastic, and can be reused over and over, much more durable than plastic. I’ll take the 50-yearold originals over the plastic repos any day.

thanks for the correction 72RoadrunnerGTX. is there a source for the original nylon clip? I got the part number from my 72 mopar parts catalog, but didn’t get any hits for the original part #. I was trying to find the clip that the body manual said to remove to change the door lock cylinders, and the picture is what I saw - a broken clip….. Too bad the manual doesn’t have a good picture of what the clip looks like.

That lock rod just snaps in there. I see the chip missing from it, does it not hold the rod in place? If you are trying to remove it, just pull it out. That little rod push-in clip may be hard to find, I'm not seeing offered anywhere.

thanks 72 roadrunnerGTX.
the lock rod needed to be removed to change the locks, I was following the instructions in the 1972 body guide, but without any pictures to reference except for one in the parts catalog, The reason for the door lock switch is my ignition cylinder went bad and the key kept falling out, so I got a set of keyed alike door locks when I purchased the ignition cylinder. I probably didn’t need to and maybe I should have had the new ignition cylinder rekeyed, instead, because this replacement was a a pain…. I’m recovering from shoulder surgery (torn rotator cuff) and I just didn’t seem to have the strength to pull it out by hand, and, until I read your post, I didn’t think it was supposed to come out since I couldn’t get it to budge. Anyway, thanks to your help, I was able to grab a hold of the rod with some vise grips and pulled it out, just like you said, but not without damaging it more than it already had been damaged.. My followup question is, unless its a stock photo, the picture I posted from Classic industries doesn't appear to have the correct clip for the lower end of the rod where it connects to the door latch, right? Comparing the picture of the clip from the parts catalog to the picture from classic Industries website, I’m worried they are trying to sell me yet something else that doesn’t quite fit my car. So far, its happened five or six times out of a dozen orders and I just didn’t want to end up with some stuff i just won’t use. Most recently, I purchased the aftermarket console lock and it just wouldn’t latch so I took it down to the locksmith to see if the guts can be used in the original (which had been gutted). I have not been very happy with CI’s quality control to say the least.
