Adding new stereo to 69 RR, and I've read there is a replacement for the front 4X10 speaker...
that being a "dual front speaker" package that fits right in.....any experience out there with this? price? where to buy? sound quality?
thanks!

If you are referring to the kind that replaces the 10" cone with 2 4 " tweeters than you would want to install it the same way you would the 3" tweeters using an appropriate crossover to eliminate any bass signals. Those small tweeters sound horrible if connected directly to a deck with no crossover because they are not designed to transmit bass frequencies.

If this is going to be your only source of front audio you may be better off going with a dual voice coil 4x10 so that you get some mid range and bass out of the front speaker.

is this link you provided what you are suggesting? I have no clue about audio...except my son is putting in an amp, and head unit in the trunk, with subwoofer, and I have no speakers in the car presently, so figured the dual for the front, and a 5x7, 6x9 for rear deck on 69 RR....

There was a guy selling a bracket that would accept two 3.5" speakers and mount where the center speaker mounts.
I did this on the '69 Coronet. With the stock heater controls, you need speakers that are not real deep or the temp control cable gets in the way. I used two Inifinity Kappa 3.5" speakers which are pretty deep and had that issue, but I wanted A/C and installed the Vintage Air system that uses an electronic control panel that replaces the original mechanical operated panel, so plenty of clearance for the speakers with that A/C unit.

The previous link I posted was just an example of what I thought you were referring to. I would not go with that particular brand personally. Got to looking around on amazon and as 451 stated, here are adapters as well for mounting two 3.5 speakers in the 4x10 slot. This may be your best bet as there are tons of high quality 3.5 speakers out there and many come with the bass eliminator already attached.

Found some Photos.
The Bracket was from a guy on Moparts

Thanks guys, but hows the sound on any of these?
And why do i need a "bass eliminator"?
Am i looking for 2 3.5 speakers with no bass?

The speakers I used above are 3 ways but I can't really comment on sound as I am using the stock am radio....they sound decent.

This is a 4x10 direct bolt in with "left and right" tweeters that can be connected in stereo or mono. Depending on you radio head this speaker is the right ohmage and is not a power hog.
I run this with two 6x9's outback using as Kenwood low amperage head and they (it) sound quite pleasing. For bass I have an "underseat" sub with it's own built in amp. You can go with what ever speakers you wish but make sure to match their capability with the head unit's output. On the 4x10 you do not need a crossover because the tweeters have filters already built in.

Ok.....im starting to get it! I was looking for 2 separate speakers ar first in the 4x10 frame, but i see what ur saying now! Sorry, really am dumb when it comes to stereo stuff....would i b running 4 speaker wires to this dual? 2 for right, 2 for left?

If my radio says:
14 watts RMS. 50 peak x 4 channels, will ur speaker work?

The front speakers sound decent, but because they are both in the center there is not much stereo separation, and sound is mostly mid-high.
This is in the Convertible, so hard to hear bass with small speakers.
I also have two 6.5" round speaker in the rear seat side panels, and a subwoofer with amp in the trunk.
In a hardtop you might get acceptable bass without the sub, but the open convertible need the sub to hear the lower frequency.
