Was looking for a 727 with a gear vendor. Came across Cope Racing Transmisions. The quote he gave me was reasonable. Wondering if anyone had any experiance with his trannys?
Thanks

He built mine for me.
No issues at all.
His website is very informative too.

He's been around for awhile now and seems to know what he's doing. I say go for it.

I bought mine from him. Still in process of getting it installed. I checked with 4 shops at the time I was shopping. He was the most helpful and very price competitive compared to the other quotes I got. He also worked with my deadline for pickup as me being from Canada I was making a run to the U.S. to pick up a Dana. The tranny was there when it needed to be.
Can't wait till spring to test it. I am sure it will be great as the reviews I have read on him.

Thanks guys. Going in a street/strip car.

i have used johns stuff several times.really good quality and have never broken anything.i thrash the hell outa my stuff as well.

I've used quite a few of his parts over the years, had great customer service too...

should be fine

Good guy, makes a good product. Go for it

I use parts from him. He's good to deal with, no issues with parts either.

Ok now for the second question. Should I have a tranny brake instaled? I will mostly be running DOT drag radials. But I might decide to run slicks sometime. I do have a Dana with Strange axles so I'm not worried about that, & also Cal Tracs. Is the the trannybrake over kill, is it feasable for street use? Just trying to get an idea before I talk to John on the phone later this week.

I didn't go with a brake. That said though, if you ever think you may want to get a brake, just do it and be done with it. I'm not sure yet if I'll regret not getting one?

Cope's shop is 10 minutes from my house (I know, YAY for me). I had another performance tranny in the Bee for this past summer along with the new motor (one summer) and by October that tranny was slipping very bad. The other shop (in Indiana) didn't bother listening to me when discussing/ordering my new tranny. John took that tranny apart and everything inside was burned up, clutch packs were toast, some scoring on the bands, etc. John rebuilt that tranny for to me to Cope specs along with installing a GV unit. Damn does the Bee put the horsepower of the new motor down now!!!! Cope ALL THE WAY!!!! Great guy to work with and actually listens to you.

Really shocking what a difference it is between the Cope tranny and the other C___ tranny!!!!

Thanks 440beep, how do you like the gearvendor, did you have to do any trans tunnel mods to make it fit? What gear you running & what RPM @ 60 in OD you turning? Thanks for the info.

John said he had to make a small adjustment with a hammer to knock a bulge in the tunnel to clear the GV, nothing major though.

Bee has a 4:10 gear, and I can cruise now roughly at 3K doing 70mph; before I was doing 3K at 55mph. John also hooked me up with a shortened drive shaft and 1350 yokes. So far so good with the GV, unfortunately the car was finished in early December so only had her out once or twice before the crap weather set in.

That sounds perfect! I have 3.73's so should be a couple hundred less RPM I think. I was hoping to cruise 70 @ 2600 so should be close! BTW where about is his shop. With gass prices where they are it may be cheaper for me to drive there from Central Iowa. I'm only 5 hours from Chicago.

BTW spring is getting closer every day!

I may look you up when I come over to see the Bee!

John's shop is in Lowell, IN. Roughly an hour southeast of Chicago on the IN side. I've known John to drive part way and meet out of state people to do exchanges of tranny stuff. Might be an option once he hears you're from IA. Or drive to shop with the cheap gas prices. Paid $2.50 for premium last night.

Thanks! Reg. gas is 1.77 here!

Pulled the trigger! Called John and he was very helpful. Told him what I wanted and expected performance. He recomended the std GV OD as it takes less trans tunnel mods. He said that since I hadn't welded the spring perches yet it should be a snap ( to get the pinion angle set). Also recomended the Bouchlin kick down cable that will work with any carb manifold combo. Very nice man to deal with. He said I'm #6 in line, and I should see it in about 5-6 weeks. which is fine cause I'm a long way from being on the road.

Aw damn! If I would have known, I would have told you to tell him that Lee commented on how great is work is and talked him up to you. But good deal anyway!!!
