There is no evidence the 8-3/4 was ever apart until I disassembled it. Appears that this adjuster has been like this for years if not the original installation. Anyone seen one like this? Once I cracked the cap bolts it smoothly backed off.

Run or replace? Anyone have a spare, Lol?

Yup 489 case. I have another complete third member here, just would hate to rob one part off it. Dr. Diff don't show any on his site.
 
Kinda curious more than anything if anyone has seen this. Don't really see how it would hurt anything as one the backlash is set and caps locked down it's not hurting anything.

does it just screw in and centers everything?

I would look around for a replacement part.
It may have been something to do with the manufacturing - bent while too cold causing a crack?
 
does a 742 case have that part? I have a box full of 742 :rolleyes:
