My stepdad and I are debating about this because his copper car when the previous owners of the car restored it, they painted it body color and now he wants to black it out. I’m wondering if ALL ‘69 Chargers had a blacked out tail panel no matter if the engine was a 318 or HEMI, I know that the 440 and HEMI R/Ts did get it but I’m not sure about the rest. I personally don’t think that the smaller than 440 engine cars did, but my stepdad seems to think they ALL did regardless. Do any of our 1968-1970 Charger experts know? @chargervert @Richard Cranium. @Triplegreen500.

Thanks In Advance

Yes - same for the '68s.
Base model '70s had body color there, but the upgraded models continued the black-out.

70 didn’t receive the blackout, they got the aluminum bezel painted black and polished center stripe. This is also where the newer cars with the racetrack tail lamps got their design... they copied the shape of the trim panel. Body color is under the trim bezel and doesn’t cover the entire area.

Correct - I should have been more specific.

Depends on the plant, Saint Louis Assembly no longer used organisol after April 1968, using satin black instead.

I may be wrong, but I heard of a 69 Charger tail panel painted in flat black from the factory. Also, you mean to say that St. Louis dash frames weren’t painted in Organisol?

I'm not a Charger expert so I can't comment on the dash frames. However for Plymouth, I have listings for both semi gloss and suede finishes for dash and steering columns, not organisol.

You’re right, the interior suede finishes are different than Organisol. I stand corrected.

what did they use for the hood treatment on the 68 Bs such as a GTX? was 69 the first year for organisol on anything?
