Did anyone watch Mecum this weekend?

I watched most of it. I thought a couple of Mopars went for low money. One 1969 Charger and a 1970 Challenger both with 440's went for about $50K. Really anything decent went for over $50. The really nice stuff is over $100K.

There was one I wanted. A black 2000 Camaro SS with a twin-turbocharged LSI 6 speed, built trans and rear. $18K.

Mopars have just got out of range for collectors like me. I can't think of anything Mopar I want that's under $40K.

I missed it; but watching these auctions can be goofy with what vehicles get big cash and doesn't. Sometimes I'm shocked by how low some classic muscle cars go for wishing I'd have been bidding and then some weird vehicles getting crazy high sells. Depends on who is there, or bidding on the phone having interest in a particular car. BJ usually seems to snag higher costs than Mecum (why I prefer to watch Mecum).

I’ve spent a lot of years going to auctions of all types, especially classic tractor and farm equipment auctions, and I haven’t learned anything from auction results.

Why did Ron Mancini’s ‘63 Plymouth pull no money? It was no-sale under $30k. Stated as original cross ram car and it looked very nice.

The new Broncos, Ram TRX's and Ford Raptors went over $100K. The older square body Chevy trucks didn't do that well. With all the hoopla I thought they would do better.

You just don’t know ever... bidding war and it’s on like donkey Kong.. Quality of the car doesn’t always matter when alcohol and d*** swinging contest ensues.

The early Mopar Max cars seem to be down now. But you could say that about most Mopars, except 68-70 Chargers.

I have NO Clue
Perhaps the "Crowd" or Sheeple had no clue of that 30,000 mile Rare Beast?

The demand just isn’t there. Maybe it’s because of so many clones. But even a clone should be worth more than that.

location seems to be a pretty big factor imo, and yes I think the market on these are starting to come down at least at the higher level auctions like mecum and barrett. bat seem to be gaining, but thats a whole different platform.

Yes I watched it, we were there a few years back. If you don't already know, let me tell you, the cars usually look pretty good on TV but in reality a lot are far from it. The wife and I spent several hours walking the grounds and noticed a lot of sub par cars that looked fine until you got close. Lipstick on a pig, big time. Don't get me wrong we had a blast and bid on several vehicles but you had to inspect them. The prices/bids often reflected what bidders saw up close. The trick was to find potential that everyone else over looked and there were a few of those, sadly just a touch above my price range. The other trick is the early No Reserve cars. Placed in that position to get bidders fired up. We saw a bunch of those flop and someone got a GREAT deal. We will go again, soon.

You just don’t know ever..
I agree. I used to do the auction scene. Some great deals, some stupid high prices.
I have observed this many times.Trophy wife,"Honey I want that, buy it for me !" The male hormones take over and stupidity moves in.

Agree 100%. BJ or Mecum are not a way to judge value of muscle cars because of that. Ebay auctions tend to run close to actual values because your not showing off on t.v. playing mr. big rich guy.

What day was it up for auction. Lower priced cars middle of the week.

It's not just Mopars.

BTW, is buying a classic car at a place specifically designed to get the absolute highest price the best way to buy one?

Did the yellow 69 RR sell? It got up to $98,000 the last I saw. It was a 440 six, 4 speed. It went to "the bid goes on" when I had to leave.
