I dropped a thick intake washer down the rabbit hole (distributor). After 3 days I am lucky and determined not to fall in myself-and I didn't. I had to remove the distributor gear to reach the washer and I did Not mark anything because my calm and collective self left me and was replaced with Mr. PANIC.
I have tried to put everything back by memory and failed completely. Removed spark plug #1 and reached top of the compression stroke and the rest is history.
Can someone help me to get my Road Runner to the track please, guys I'm truly stuck...
1974 RR 360 LA stroked 60 over

Edlebrock high rise dual plane RPM Performer AIR GAP intake
MSD IGN, Coil, Wires and Distributor

Let me know if you need more information-

Get the engine to TDC on the compression stroke. Drop the gear in and point it towards #1. Drop the distributor in and point the rotor towards #1. Set the distributor in just before #1 on the cap, lock it down. Install distributor cap with #1 wire on the terminal the rotor is pointed at. That’s #1.

Good info here and might i add the dist gear should line up when at TDC like this.
Parallel with cam.
It should line up with factory wire rotation for #1 on cap.

If you can’t get the gear to line up right, just drop it in as close as possible and with a flathead screwdriver turn it counter clockwise until it jumps the tooth and let it fall back in place.

Too Much information can be harmful LOL i’m at top dead center On the compression stroke as seen in the first photo and the second photo Is pointing toward factory spark plug number one and not pointing toward the cam!
Should I just drop in the distributor and continue or ???

If you’re sitting at TDC on compression stroke I would move one tooth. If you’re at 10 o’clock now, I would try to be at 11 o’clock. The slot in the shaft should point at the #1 cylinder.

Use the screwdriver tip mentioned before. Move it tooth by tooth until you get it there.

TY so much-She finally started-having a bit of a fluctuating idling issue but I haven't tried your latest recommendation either. Tomorrow I will start again and follow through.
I was able to take her for about a mile run and with all my Hi Pro upgrades she is unbelievably fast-I live in the mountains and all my neighbors were standing outside their homes watching me get on it-it was amazing my friend!!
I will keep you all posted if you're interested-
Thanks to everyone who contributed to my cry for HELP.

True!!! I forgot it because since I changed to the MP distributor ( Mallory ) the indexing is diff on these, more like 80-90° to the cam. Rotor is not clocked the same on these than the stock ones

The gear slot goes front to back on a big block, 12 o’clock or parallel to the cam. Small block gets clocked over towards #1 cylinder, not parallel to cam.
Confused-With MSD distributor #1 is at the 3 o'clock position facing the engine from the radiator. How to get to the normal factory position TDC #1?

Everything I was referencing was a factory setup. I have no idea about MSD or Mallory parts. The reason you do what I had noted is to make sure the vacuum can falls at a location to give you room to adjust timing. Here’s a diagram of what it should look like.
