Hey guys,

Hope everyone's having a great summer with your rides! Need a little help with a firewall grommet used in a 1964 Race Hemi Plymouth. This is the one that accommodates the dual battery cables. The cable comes out from the firewall and is attached to the terminal block on the fender. Just trying to acquire the right grommet so I know what size hole to put in the firewall.

Anyone have any idea where you could find one of these animals? Actually looking for both the double and single Battery cables grommets. One is for 64 and the single for a 65.

Any help much appreciated!

Jeff

I have been approached about reproducing this grommet, but at this time, there are a number of other projects that we are still wanting to bring to the market. The person who has this NOS grommet stated that they are very difficult to locate and they are nothing that is similar in the market place. I am not saying that it will not be made, but I cannot see anything being available before next July.

Thank you guys for the great replies! Brian at Crossram is awesome to work with and currently one of the only ones we buy from! Really knows his stuff and super nice guy. I was just curious about part numbers etc. on this grommet and if the dual battery cable one in 64 is the same on used for the 65 single battery cable? Seems as if the hole should be bigger or maybe two holes in the grommet? One of the few part numbers not listed in the Jim Schild books.

This is my project. Couldn't resist slapping the air cleaner on yesterday! Usually rides in the trunk and velocity stacks suck in the air.

The single style grommet has a part number that goes back to something like 1959 and is completely different than the grommet as used on the max wedge cars. The grommet, part number 1370460, is very unique as found for the earlier cars. It is believed to have been used up though the 67 B-Body RO and WO series of cars, but I have not documented this. Also, I have no ideal if continued over into the A-Body applications for the lightweight Darts and Cudas. There is such a limited demand for the grommets and that is why they have not already been done correctly. You can purchase a grommet that will work, but for the people who really know these cars, they can quickly detect the incorrect piece.
I have been so lucky to have been able to collect this information from one of the most knowledgeable historians of these cars and he does have NOS samples of these pieces. It is a matter of allocating money and time to bring the project to a production phase and determination if the market will support such a limited demand item.

Wow, great info! The great Grommet hunt is on! LOL! Any idea where the 15" ground cable bolts on to the engine? I have the hole in the firewall located but not sure where the ground cable bolts to on the engine. This cable just goes from the engine to the firewall.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Jeff,
I would reference the Greg Lane Max Wedge website or the Darrell Davis books for the needed information. These two gentleman's knowledge and help to the industry and hobby will never be repaid for what they have given to us. My knowledge is VERY limited on these cars and defer to others with more knowledge. Always look for original documented information as these cars were race cars that were modified as soon as they left the assembly line.
