i'm sure this has been discussed before but this time its year and model specific,,

has anybody installed an electric assist power steering unit in there 1962-65 B body car ?
found a couple of threads about using the '07 prious units, but not in the early B's, great concept , No pump or pulleys to mess with and most race headers (mine) r not compatible with power steering boxs...

have some time to kill before i get my heads back and thinking about atempting it. some companys do offer a kit (1400.00) but not specificly for these cars where as u can get a prious unit for 200.00. manual steering around town has always been a PITA.

anybody tried it ?

I hate it on my 2012 Challenger R/T. When I hit a bump in the lane that goes all the way across the lane while in the turn like on the freeway. I swear it feels like it self centers while air born over the bump, because the car jerks back and forth over each bump. Doesn't matter if a right or left turn. It still does it either way.

made some progress on my electric assist power steering,,spliced in a 2007 saturn vue EPAS unit. went with the vue because the car weighs 4000 lbs, unlike the prius unit that guys use that is for a 3000 lb car..half way done. need a couple of small parts from summit to final fit..weldable spline coupler and exhaust reducer to center the original steering tube....unit will work like originally intended by applying assist based upon vehicle speed using GPS. at speed very little, at slow speeds parking lots. driveways, etc, more..

total cost will be less than 500.00...

how are you linking GPS speed to electric steer controller ?
i have used a electric power steering pump , using a variable resister to tune power output of pump . Similar to factory . I agree with your choice of unit i dont agree with using the Prius or Toyota Echo type motor unit , not designed for the vehicle or tyre load of B Bodies

this is being installed on a 1963 plymouth belvedere, FYI.

mocked up in car today,,lots of room. not very visable, if i was to put some black paint on the bottom of it, u would not realize it was there...i think this is going to be 1 of those ,,Money well spent moments. car will be much nicer to drive,,,1963 plymouth belvedere..

final welds and pins done,,upper and lower flanges r welded. support bearing on lower shaft. both upper and lower shafts r collapsable just like stock vue installation, makes for an easier install on my 63. wiring is next..4 wires. And i am going to reduce steering wheel size from 15" down to a superior 500 13.5" walnut wheel. and if it ever dies, its just a matter of unbolting it from the flanges and installing a new unit.
