Firing of engine for first time in car...have questions, need advice

Did you break in the cam or is it a roller?

Cam break in done with engine builder and on Dyno. I got it started and just ran it at idle. It has a Voodoo solid roller cam with "BBM solid roller lifters". Also, when I got it running, it had awesome oil pressure. I'm leaning towards turning the distributor to see what it does

Just an extra thought.. I didn't see if you were running msd plug wires and if using a digital timing light. I found they do not play nice with each other. I know this doesn't help with the other issues but if you have em, use and old non msd wire for number 1 when you time and you'll get an accurate reading. If use msd, numbers will be all over the place.

Or can just use old fashioned timing light too..

That would make sure you're getting an accurate reading, then you can go from there.

Good luck.

No msd, rules all that out then. Good..

They might have turned your idle screw way in to break in the cam at 2000+ rpm did you back off the idle speed screw. If it is idling at 2000 or so your timing will be way advanced you should be able to make it almost stall with the idle speed screw. Once you have it around 850 -900 rpm then check timing.
