ill ask a more simple question as i got too confused on previous post.

505 stroker, 12.1 comp, 98 octane, NO mechanical advance line on dist. electronic MSD dist. cam at .50 is 250/255, cam is already at 3 degrees advanced

after i have set piston 1 to TDC on compression stroke how to i set the initial timing???

once that donw how do i set the total timing.

i believe i forgot to mark actual TDC on balabcer but if i remember correctly it was spot on te 0 mark .

tools i have is piston stopper, electronice timing light which shows RPM also, i have VAC gauge

simplified answers if you could please im a dumbass on this subject.

thanks in advance

No problem; will try again. After you find TDC compression #1 firing and the rotor is pointing to the #1 tower, roll the crank back until you are at 10 BTDC. Then rotate the distributor body until the reluctor (star wheel; toothed wheel) is aligned with the mag pickup.

Total timing needs to be set with the engine running so leave the dist a little loose so it can be moved by hand, but not too loose. At 1500 - 2000 RPM get the light on the timing mark and make sure you are in the mid 30 degree range. Don't worry about hitting the ideal number but rather make sure you are not over advanced or retarded. The advance curve and limits are adjusted within the distributor itself but I don't know the mechanism MSD uses. Easy enough to find out though.

champion thanks mate, i am going to start it tomorrow after i fix this power steer leak, will let you know how i go

benno start the motor first time with a few gallons of race gas added. Also prime the oil pump with a drill mounted shaft that engages the oil pump with he distributor gear pulled out.

rusty ,still looking for the unthank button, gimme a min

Hey, I rebuild turbomolecular pumps. Does that count?

Hmmm, I'm beginning to realize I can't upload pics from this cornputer anymore.
